Last night at the Sonny Parker Summer League Pro Am basketball game, Team Walker started off cold. Team Murray which was showcased by DePaul University players' Michael Bizoukas and Krys Faber jumped out to an early 10-0 lead to begin the game. Shortly after Team Walker went on its own 10-6 run and then, ran away with the game.
Team Walker led by Cal Poly's Chris Eversley, UIC Flames' Paul Carter and Kansas' Mario Little trailed after the first quarter 13-16 but by halftime they had a seven point lead making the score 44-37 at half. Then the third quarter began and behind UIC's Paul Carter's 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists Team Walker came out hot, scoring 14 points in the first three minutes making the game seem like a runaway.
Until Mike Bizoukas and Krys Faber began to take over and show their Blue Demon pride and led Team Murray on a comeback route and cut what was a twenty point lead to a three point lead with a less then a minute remaining.
Big time players step up in big time games and Cal Poly's Chris Eversley is a big time player. When Team Murray had miscommunication on an inbounds play Eversley stole the ball, went coast to coast, and sailed through the lane for a layup giving his team a five point lead.
Team Murray came down and hit a three point basket bringing the gap to the closest it had been since the first quarter, two points. Then as Mario Little received the inbound pass he gave it up to Chris Eversley who was immediately fouled. Pressure?
Chris Eversley made one of two free throws and gave his team a three point lead 99-96. After a final three-point attempt by Team Murray the rebound was ripped down by Paul Carter and Team Walker advances to the championship.
This Saturday versus Team Humphrey everything is on the line in a summer league designated for students playing basketball. Team Walker knows it's all about winning and playing together as a team and coming off two straight strong games, they've got their eyes on the title.
