It is a slow time for sports media right now, before football starts and as baseball reaches the dog days of summer.

We are all forced to deal with the same old recycled stories over and over, and frankly we should all be sick of it by now.

Here is a compilation of some of the nation's most overplayed stories to date.

Alex Rodriguez Waits for 600

Perhaps it is the pinstripes or the fact he is a confessed cheater that makes the Alex Rodriguez story so tiresome.

He has not hit a home run in some 48 at-bats. Big deal. If anyone is holding his breath that an admitted user of performance-enhancing drugs is one homer away from a mark that used to mean something, then he deserves to pass out.

Who's tired of the "A-Rod at-bat trackers" that interrupt ESPN's television and radio shows?

I almost want him to hit it so it can be over with and we don't have to hear about it anymore.

Brett Favre Watch

This has been an ongoing story for three years now. Of course everyone is tired of it by now.

Will Favre play or not? Based on reports today he will not. Of course the man has said this before. What 40-something goes out and tosses the football around with high school kids if he isn't going to play? But, as he says now, he isn't going to play.

His ankle is fine, he is more physically fit than Albert Haynesworth, and he is playing one more season. Or not? We will see come the end of training camp.

Cowboys' Training Camp Drama

It's as if Dallas, the long-time prime time soap opera, never went off the air.

Each day there is a new plot twist. First Dez Bryant refuses to follow the right of passage of carrying veterans' shoulder pads.

Perhaps it was karma that led to his high ankle sprain. But wait, according to Jerry Jones, it is because the coaches worked the poor guy too hard.

Now Bryant's out four to six weeks, and Tony Romo's arm is sore. It is a conspiracy I tell you, and Jerry is going to let us all know about it because we have nothing better to do.

Stephen Strasburg Is Good

OK, we all get it. The kid can pitch, and the Nationals are going to treat the guy with kid gloves. What else is new?

Either one of two things will happen with this kid. He will be a huge success from beginning to end, or he will fizzle out and have an injury-plagued career a la Kerry Wood.

Can we just wait to see for ourselves? And for crying out loud ESPN, do we need to hear about every time he picks up a baseball?

Lane Kiffin Is an A-Hole

Never has a head coach in any sport gotten so much attention for basically being mediocre or worse everywhere he goes.

Lane Kiffin has proven he is as sleazy as they come. He steals recruits and assistant coaches, and he leaves programs high and dry if he isn't fired first.

I've never seen an interview or a press conference with the man where I thought I'd be confident to have him as my coach.

And, oh yeah, he has proven to be a first class A-hole, so we don't need ESPN reminding us how everyone hates him. We know. We know.

The MLS Season Is Still Going?

Dear ESPN,

The World Cup is over, and so is America's fleeting interest with soccer. Especially now with football training camps opening up.

Perhaps we Americans will never truly understand or appreciate the sport, but one thing is for certain. I'm tired of top 10 plays and highlights featuring a sport I care nothing about.

It doesn't make the players less skillful or the plays less impressive; it just means we don't care.

American sports fans have enough to worry about, what with the new NFL overtime rules, the debate over instant replay in baseball, and the possibility of our favorite college teams being sanctioned for NCAA violations.

LeBron James Plays for the Heat

The man every Ohio native now hates plays in Miami. As much as I feel for the citizens and fans of Cleveland, I just don't want to hear about it anymore.

The NBA free agency period has been over for two weeks. Why not give the endless coverage a rest during the offseason?

LeBron is good, but honestly I don't give two cents about where he is playing anymore. Especially since he hasn't played a game in months.

Wake me when the season starts. Then again how about when the playoffs start.

The MLB Trade Deadline

The biggest trade may have happened weeks before the trade deadline when the Mariners traded Cliff Lee to the Rangers.

At that point it is pretty much, "Who did the Yankees buy?" or "Who will barely play and maybe hang on to get a ring at season's end?"

Of course this is coming from a Dodgers fan who is pretty close to giving up hope that they will make any kind of run this year. They would probably lose again in the NLCS if they got that far anyway.

At this point though, the deadline has passed and the trades have been made. Spend one day talking about it, not five.

Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco

OK, so two of the better receivers in recent history are on the same team. It's not like it has never happened before.

The only thing that makes this story even remotely interesting is the fact that they are two genuine characters. Some may even call them idiots, but regardless, they bring entertainment value.

But let me know when the chaos starts, because the threat of disorder is all that makes this story interesting.

Does anyone think that these two guys playing together is really going to help the Bengals win a Super Bowl?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Albert Haynesworth Is Fat

I don't care what day it is, and I'm tired of hearing that the guy can't run two 300-yard drills within three-plus minutes of one another.

The man weighs more than 300 pounds, and I don't care how good of an "athlete" you are, that is a lot of weight to carry.

Of course when 47-year-old Mike Golic, who hasn't trained for football since 1994, does the drill with a day's notice, you've got to feel pretty bad for Haynesworth.

But then you are reminded that he is making $100 million, and then you don't feel as sorry for a guy who should have come to camp in shape.
