And so the saga ends. No, not the Brett Favre one, that one is just starting.

The Associated Press is reporting that right before today's trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox have traded disgruntled slugger to the L.A. Dodgers in a three team deal.

The Red Sox, Dodgers, and Pirates have exchanged players that leaves Manny in LA, Pirates LF Jason Bay in Boston, and the Pirates with four young, but still unnamed players.

After a deal that would involve the Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins stalled, the two teams were left seeking a third partner, and found one in the Dodgers.

So Manny is going to be Manny on a different coast now, in a different league, in a different uniform. Few could have foretold a few weeks ago that Manny and the Red Sox would reach this point.

Sure, every so often we would hear that Manny is upset and we would see him calling someone on his cell phone in the Green Monster. But that was just Manny being Manny. And the Red Sox would put up with him as long as he would continue to produce.

But now things have reached the breaking point, as the Red Sox finally shipped their wacky star 3,000 miles away to a team coached by former Yankees manager Joe Torre.

The Dodgers got the big bat and the big show that they wanted, the Red Sox got a great LF without the headache in exchage for the other one, and the Pirates got the young talent they want.

What remains to be seen is how Manny reacts to this trade, and whether or not the Dodgers big risk will end in big reward. But you can be sure of one thing: in a new environment, in a new park, and surrounded by new teammates, Manny will still be Manny.
