If you are a Texas football fan and you are having doubts about this upcoming season, no need to worry. Don't let all of the hype about Oklahoma and Missouri get you down.
Texas will have a great season and let me tell you why. Two words: Will Muschamp.
Muschamp is the second Auburn defensive coordinator Texas has hired in the last four years, the last one was current Iowa State coach Gene Chizik. Look for him to fix a secondary that finished 107th passing yards given up last season.
If you're worried about the running back situation, don't be. Sophomore Vondrell McGee, who is currently slated to take the starting job, was Texas' go-to man in the red zone last year. He accounted for eight touchdowns last season and should do it again. Also, expect to see Forest Whittaker get some carries too on key 3rd downs.
Expect to see Colt McCoy have a breakout year. Coming off a 21 touchdown, 18 interception campaign last year, McCoy has spent the off season working on fixing his Sophomore slump. However, don't be surprised if John Chiles comes in and takes a few snaps. Expect him to pass this season instead of him just running the ball like he did last year.
Mack Brown should work them hard this off season and use more discipline then he has in the past few years. So, don't be surprised if Texas takes home Mack's second Big 12 conference title in 2008.

I don't think the experts believe Texas is a terrible team. I think they believe there are just some teams that have a little more depth and experience that Texas. But in most polls that I've seen, Texas has been in the Top 10 or Top 12. That isn't a bad spot to be in. Most coaches would love to be there because it puts you under the radar and it gets the bullseye off of your back.

You think Texas will be good because they have a D-coordinator who you like?

Texas only has 12 seniors on their 2008 football team.....their offensive line is bigger and better this season thatn last season, their defensive backs have been coached by an all time great pass defense coach muschamp. Texas always has talent and this year with people like DeSean Hales, (look him up on youtube) their going to be even faster and more talented than the 2005 team. Even without VY.

they actually have quite a few holes to fill on the o line, espically since they lost dallas griffen and tony hills. and i doubt they will be as fast and talented this year, but maybe next year since colt will be a senior and they wont be losing as many players

@ Erik: your post is just incorrect. Both of those guys had injury problems last year.

Question about Muschamp: Is he really brilliant at schemes and player development or just great at getting guys motivated and making them tougher? Or both?

I wonder if he's really gonna fix out secondary. I guess getting a better pass rush will help.

take a look at the talent that they have a recruited, DeSean Hales, DJ Monroe, Aaron Williams, Chris Whaley. They are very talented and very fast. Mack said himself that this year's D is faster and more talented than the national championship D. Whether the D clicks this season or next they are talented and fast.
