Baseball hasn't seen a Triple Crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. A Triple Crown Winner is an all-round baseball player. He hits for high average, has power and hit well with RISP.
As August begins, two men are challenging for the coveted Triple Crown.
Joey Votto of the Reds leads the NL in Home Runs by two, has a .002 point lead in the AVG race, and trails the RBI leader by only nine.
In the AL, Miguel Cabrera leads the RBI chase, is only .009 points behind in the AVG race, but trails the Home Run leader by 6.
On Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage have become ever more important statistics in baseball. To make these chases a little more interesting, both men lead their respective leagues in SLG, Votto leads the NL in OBP and Cabrera is second in the AL (both men lead their leagues in OPS). Obviously both men are having incredible seasons.
If one does win the Triple Crown, will the winner actually get a crown?
