An explosive rookie can turn a below average team into a playoff contender in their first season, and the Titans have plenty of talented rookies that will get that opportunity in 2010.

Historically, Jeff Fisher and company have been excellent with their draft picks, getting guys like Cortland Finnegan and, of course, Chris Johnson in recent years.

Here's an update on ten promising rookies as training camp just gets underway.

Derrick Morgan: Defensive End

Derrick Morgan suffered a bit of a set back in his debut at training camp thanks to a tight left calf. Jeff Fisher doesn't seem to concerned over this injury, so as fans we shouldn't be either.

He was the first overall pick for the Titans so obviously there are high expectations for him to keep this defensive line as one of the best.

We'll unfortunately have to wait a couple more days to see what he does in training camp.

LeGarrette Blount: Running Back

The Titans are hoping that LaGarrette Blount can serve as a replacement of LenDale White.

Currently the Titans are loaded with potential suitors to end up on this roster, but unfortunately there's only room for two of them when you count Chris Johnson. It's safe to say Blount will be one of those players that gets a spot on the final roster.

We're barely into training camp, but expect Blount to get plenty of reps during training camp to prepare him for his eventual backup role to Johnson this season.

Myron Rolle: Safety

The Titans are already extremely full at the safety position and it didn't help that Rolle missed some time at Titans mini camp in June to finish off his education in Oxford.

All that aside, the Titans still decided to sign Rolle for a multi-year contract. It's great to know that a guy with this much character will be in the Titans locker room this season.

He probably won't get too much playing time his rookie season with safeties Michael Griffin and Chris Hope getting the bulk of the playing time.

Damian Williams: Wide Receiver

Damian Williams is currently sitting out due to a hamstring injury that first started bothering him back in June.

There's no reason to panic here. He can be activated at any time and I'm sure coach Jeff Fisher is just playing it safe.

He's most likely going to be the primary kickoff returner and the fourth receiver on the depth chart this upcoming season, so it's important that he gets into training camp as soon as possible.

Stafon Johnson: Running Back

Speaking of guys from Southern California, Stafon Johnson is also battling for a spot on the Titans roster as a running back.

It's not going to be easy to say the least.

Most likely there's not going to be room for both Stafon Johnson and LaGarrette Blount, so something has to give. He'll have to dazzle the coaches in training camp and preseason to play alongside Chris Johnson.

Alterraun Verner: Cornerback

This guy hasn't gotten a lot of buzz but he's entering camp with high expectations from the Titans coaching staff.

He was signed to a multi-year contract just last week and don't be surprised if he sees some playing time this season.

It's pretty much an open competition in training camp to see who will line up opposite of Cortland Finnegan at the cornerback position and it's possible that Verner will get that position if he shines in camp.

Robert Johnson: Safety

It didn't take long for Robert Johnson to begin dazzling coaches in training camp. Earlier today Johnson showed his athleticism by knocking down a Chris Simm's pass at the goal line.

He'll be one injury away from being a starter in 2010, so it's good to see him off to a good start in training camp.

Rusty Smith: Quarterback

A lot of people were puzzled by the Titans taking Rusty Smith in the sixth round of the NFL draft, but offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger has already said he's amazed by Smith's field vision.

Obviously the Titans current quarterback situation isn't what you would call stable. Smith is clearly a pick for the future considering Kerry Collins is close to retirement and frankly you never know what you're going to get with Vince Young.

With all of that said the Titans didn't waste any time agreeing to terms with Smith back in June. He won't see any meaningful playing time for a few years.

Marc Mariani: Wide Receiver

Mariani is said to be shaking things up at Titans camp and bringing forth a lot of competition for the final spots on the roster.

We know for sure that Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, Justin Gage, and Damian Williams have spots on the team.

That leaves Mariani to battle it out with Lavelle Hawkins and Paul Williams. All these guys have a lot of talent, but the question is who can deliver?

Mariani helped his case today with a 40-plus yard catch, among many other catches. He comes from a small Montana program so he has a lot to prove.

Rennie Curran- Linebacker

He may be undersized, but Rennie Curran still led the SEC in tackles during his collegiate career at Georgia.

Usually that kind of success in the SEC translates to success in the NFL. He actually has a great chance at getting a sizable amount of playing time this season thanks to the departure of Keith Bullock.

We'll get plenty of opportunities to see how he's doing as training camp progresses this week.
