At 4 p.m. the MLB Trade deadline passed, but not without a flurry of activity between multiple teams.
The New York Yankees their final move before the deadline by acquiring Kerry Wood from the Cleveland Indians for a play to be named later or cash considerations.
The move is an attempt to bolster their bullpen and bridge the gap to closer Mariano Rivera. Wood, 33, has a 6.30 ERA in 23 appearances for the Indians, but has seen some time on the DL this season.
The trade comes on the heel of the Lance Berkman and Austin Kearns deals, moves that are an attempt to cover up the few holes in the Yankees roster.
In other news, the Atlanta Braves also made some waves this morning by trading for outfielder Rick Ankiel, and relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth from the Royals. In return, Kansas City receives Jesse Chavez, Gregor Blanco, and Tim Collins.
