MLB Trade Deadline: Low Impact MLB Swaps

Jhonny Peralta to the Detroit Tigers

Peralta looks to add some depth this year to an infield that has quite a few injuries. As Paul Sporer talked about on this week's podcast, the Tigers are all but out of the race this year which is why this deal is more of a move for next year. Peralta has a $7 million option for the 2011 season which will surely be picked up by the Tigers.

It would seem if they can re-sign Brandon Inge for next year that Peralta can move back to his old stomping grounds of shortstop, or perhaps moved to second. The Tigers are hoping for that 20-homer power to come back to add to the lower half of their line-up next year. All the Tigers had to give up was a single-A left-handed pitcher named Giovanni Soto who has been better than mediocre but years away from seeing MLB action.
