99 Games In: What Are the Chances the Red Sox Make the Playoffs?

The Boston Red Sox have played 99 games and they have a record of 55-44 – good enough to be a division leader in 2 divisions.

However, the Red Sox are in the American League East, which places them in 3rd place in a 5 team division. They are 5 games behind 2nd place Tampa Bay Rays and 8 games behind division leading New York Yankees.

They have been harbored by injuries all season. Currently Victor Martinez, Mike Lowell and Jacoby Ellsbury are all on the 15-day disabled list.

However, as good the Red Sox have been (7th in batting average, 2nd in Home runs, 2nd in RBIs, and 3rd in hits), they have not been as good as Tampa Bay or New York.

Tampa Bay and New York have been consistent all year, but Boston has had a roller coaster of a year. Currently they are riding a 2 game losing streak and going 4-6 in their last 10 games.
