Rumor Central: Tracy McGrady Wants to Play for the Lakers

Tracy McGrady is rumored to have an interest in playing for the back-2-back NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers. This comes a week after the Lakers finished off the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

Ron Artest is reported to have reached out to his former Houston Rocket’s teammate Tracy McGrady. The former All-Star has never made it out of the first round of the playoffs, and with a chance to play with the Lakers, he could have the opportunity to “end his career as a champion.”

However, McGrady would have to take a severe pay cut. Last year before the Rockets traded him to the New York Knicks, he was making about $23 million that year — easily tops in the NBA, beating out Kobe Bryant by a few thousand dollars.

The Los Angeles Lakers will probably let Jordan Farmar and Adam Morrison walk into free agency. That will free up some cash to sign the 2-time scoring champion, Tracy McGrady to a mid-level salary. It is about the same amount Ron Artest made last year (roughly $5 million per year).
