The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Pascal Leclaire to a three-year deal that will cost the Blue Jackets $11.4 ($3 million the first, $3.6 million the second, & $4 million the third).
All I have to say is it is about time!! Here’s the quote from GM, Scott Howson:
“We’re very happy to have signed Pascal to a new contract that will keep him with the Blue Jackets for the next three seasons,” said Howson. “He is an important part of our team and we think he will continue to improve and play a significant role in helping us reach our goals.”
I will have more on this later.
UPDATE: Here are my thoughts on Pazzy signing. It is a perfect contract. The cap hit is $3.8 million per season. Comparable salaries from this UFA signing period Huet who has a cap hit of $5.625 million per season, and Theodore, with his $4.5 million contract. Howson is a VERY intelligent general manager. He took his time with Pazzy and his agent, and worked out, what I think is the perfect contract. If Pazzy is healthy again this season, and for the following two, we will have a steal of a contract. I also like the three-year deal, this gives Steve Mason enough time to develop down in the AHL, and when he’s ready come up, we can sign Pazzy again and have two capable goaltenders.
