Breaking News: Ivan Rodriguez Traded to the New York Yankees

Chris ZadoroznyCorrespondent IJuly 30, 2008

The New York Yankees made a huge splash in the trade market by landing 14-time All-Star catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers for reliever Kyle Farnsworth.

The Yankees needed a catcher after learning that Jorge Posada would undergo season-ending elbow surgery, and they found a great fit with Pudge. Personally I am a huge Tiger fan and am shocked by this trade.

I know that there was a situation with Rodriguez and Brandon Inge sharing playing time, but I would have never thought that this would be the solution. That said, I think Detroit got the best of the trade, as they not only solved this problem but got a relief pitcher.

Both Inge and Rodriguez are really great players, but Pudge can only play one or two positions. Inge is an all-round player and can play every position. He will be missed in Detroit, but I wish him luck in New York and hope he comes back at the end of the season.
