It was a little ways into the first half, that I realized I had seen this game before. It was an iconic and infamous movie, called Mean Girls. I'm sure you've heard of it.
Let me explain. See the blonde in the picture? That is Regina George. She is the female doggish queen bee at the public, clique infested high school in Evanston, Illinois. And the other one, played by Lindsay Lohan, that is Cady Herron. She is the girl who was home-schooled her whole life, and just moved back to the states from living in Africa for 12 years.
Let me tell you the story. (I swear it's relevant with the game) Cady (Chioma Igwe, Lindsay Tarpley, and Ifeoma Dieke, who all were either traded to Boston or fired by the Red Stars and picked up by Boston), becomes friends with Regina (Red Stars-the whole team). Cady tells Regina that she has a HUGE crush on her Regina's ex, Aaron Samuels. Then, at a Halloween party, Regina purposely makes out with Aaron and gets back together with him right in front of Cady (Red Stars fire or trade those players). Cady then becomes better friends (joins the team) with Janis and Damien (Breakers). Cady continues to pretend to be friends with Regina and her possey- Gretchen Weiners and Karen Carpenter. After Cady spends a bit of time with Regina every day (when they used to play for them), she goes to Janis and Damien and tells them all her secrets to slowly break Regina George off piece by piece (they tell the Breakers all of the Red Stars' weaknesses in order to win, and get revenge on the team that betrayed them).
In the end of the movie, everyone wins. There are no cliques anymore and everyone is friends with everyone. In the game, Cady (Breakers) ended up beating Regina (Red Stars) 3-1.
The Breakers scored 3 goals in 10 minutes in the first half, one of the scorers being Ifeoma Dieke. Coincedence? I think not!
Thank god for my lion friend, Kosovare Asllani, who scored our 1 goal on a direct kick. Happy birthday to Kosovare, by the way.
Welcome to the real world, my friends. ;)
