Who Will Win In Los Angeles This Week?
This week's men's tournament is in L.A. for the Farmer's Classic. It has a decent field. Andy Murray is the top seed followed by Sam Querrey Marcos Baghdatis and Feliciano Lopez. Mardy Fish will also be riding high after a great tournament in Atlanta. Here are my predictions for the upcoming week:
It's a pretty easy section for Murray. He will probably face Ernests Gulbis in the quarterfinals. I think Murray will get through that in three sets to advance to the semifinals.
This is a tough section. The top seed in the section is Lopez, but I don't see him making it through. He has a big serve and could do well this summer, but I think this section will be too tough for him. Xavier Malisse has been playing well lately and I think he will upset Lopez. On the other side of the section is Fish, but he will potentially have Benjamin Becker and James Blake in his way. The way Fish is playing I expect him to get through and face Malisse in the quarters with Fish winning in three sets.
This section is loaded with qualifiers. I expect both Baghdatis and Janko Tipsarevic to make it through to the quarterfinals. Look for Baghdatis to win that match in three sets.
Querrey has a tricky section. Kevin Anderson is coming off a semifinal appearance in Atlanta and could be Querry's first match. Robby Ginepri, Rainer Schuettler and Horacio Zeballos are all in he section as well. I expect Querrey to make it through and play well in his home state of California.
Murray vs. Fish
Fish has been playing great lately, but he has also played a lot of tennis. I think it will catch up to him against Murray.
Pick: Murray in two sets.
Baghdatis vs. Querrey
Baghdatis always seems to play well on the hardcourts, but I think Querrey will get some help from his home-state crowd and pull out the win.
Pick:Querrey in two sets.
Murray vs. Querrey
This would be a rematch of their Wimbledon match last month. Murray won that in three sets. I think Murray will rally from a set down and win it.
Pick: Murray in three sets.
