Premier League Stars with Something To Prove This Season

After this years impressive World Cup we seen many of the Premier Leagues top players under-perform.
So in no particular order I made a little slide of 10 players who really have got to have an impressive season to avoid the risk of losing fans, popularity, and the most important thing now a days in football: money.
Some of the players in the slide were not in the World Cup, but the Majority were.
Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney debatable the Premier Leagues best player was brutal at England's World Cup run.
He did not score, he had no pace and showed terrible body language these are three things we rarely ever see from the United star.
Some say the pressure got to him.
Others say he played to many games last season so much that it would affect his World Cup performance but Rooney played 44 games last season and The World Cup Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan played 55 games.
Last season Rooney scored 34 amazing goals in 44 appearances.
Thomas Hitzlspurger
Hitzlpurger is by far one of the most under-ratted players in the whole League.
He is a Left or more recently a Central midfielder with a lot to prove because he joined Lazio last season and never really hit it off with the fans and for that reason and others he was released by the club.
A result he was Avram Grants first signing as manger of West Ham United. He passed a medical and signed a a contract for three years.
Another reason as to why he has a point to prove is because he was picked for Germany's World Cup squad.
Thomas Hitzlspurger played in the PL before with Aston Villa he manged to make 115 appearences and scored 12 times.
David Silva
This man has a big transfer fee hanging over his head. He won the World Cup in the summer with Spain and impressed a lot of European top clubs.
City apparently beat off competition from Madrid and Inter to capture Silva's signing in a deal said to be worth £25 million!
Last season with Spanish side Valencia Silva made 36 appearances and hit the net 10 times and grabbed 15 assists.
He signed for fours years with the Manchester club.
Can Silva prove hes worth 25 million or will Mancini be hopeful of a refund!
Joe Cole
The former Chelsea and West Ham man had so many teams to chose from when he left Chelsea.
Totenham or Arsenal was where Cole was expected to be playing his football this season but after Liverpool made Cole a very decent offer Cole decided to move to Anfield.
He's got a lot to prove for two reasons. Firstly after a lot o top soccer managers talking very highly off him will he live up to all the talk and preform how he did with Chesea for Liverpool.
Secondly, Cole was left out of Capello's starting XI for all the World Cup games. Can Cole impress Capello and hope to be back as an England winger.
Cole appeared 38 times with Chelsea only celebrated a disappointing two goals.
Can Cole improve his finishing and make a vital point. Or will Hodgson be luck he came on a free transfer!
Paul Scholes
Paul Scholes is a Manchester United living legend and some might argue that he should not be on this list but in all fairness Scholes is in his late 30's and was lucky to stay in the PL and especially with a team like United.
Scholes has played his whole career at United and through all them years he made 643 appearances and has scored on a 150 occasions.
Over his career, Scholes has received over 79 yellows and four reds in the Premier League and 25 yellows and two second yellows in the Champions League, more than any other player in the competition to date.
Scholes also has 68 English cap to his credit and also 14 International goals.
Didier Drogba
Didier Drogba is the captain of the Ivory Coast and is well known for his brilliant goal scoring record.
Last season Drogba won Chelsea's player of the year award and played 44 matches and scored an impressive 37 goals.
He only scored one goal in the World Cup and that was at the Ivory Coast's defeat to Brazil. He was heavily criticized by television Pundits and also by the English media.
Drogba never fails to preform during a PL season but my gut tells me this may be a tough one for the Chelsea veteran.
Drogba is now 32 years of age and is being constantly linked with a move to the high spending Manchester side—Man City.
Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard along with the entire England team had a very bad World Cup and was a genuine transfer target to Spanish giants Real Madrid
Jose Mourinho was a big Gerrard fan and when Mourinho was at Chelsea he bid for the star but Rafa rejected the big money move.
Then as Mourinho was at Inter he asked Stevie G to join him but yet another rejection.
But as Mouirinho joined Madrid, many expected Steven to join him as there he would be getting decent European football and a genuine chance to win the La Liga.
After Gerrard's poor World Cup performance Jose said, "When I do make a move in this transfer market its certainly wont be in Liverpool's direction."
Gerrard is a brilliant player and is a well known goal scorer and score a good goal from a long distance.
Can Gerrard win over Mourinho's heart, the medias heart and most importantly the Liverpool fans Heart.
Robert Green
Robert Green is a top Goalie.
But out of every player in the world this man had quite simply the worst campaig—he had no influence on the English team what so ever.
He was backed to be England's No. 1 keeper but was dropped out for David James who is going to be 40 in August.
Green plays his football with West Ham United and always had impressive seasons up to now and he is backed to have another poor campaign.
Last Season he managed to play 41 games.
Fernando Torres
Torres joined a host of the PL players by having a brutal World Cup.
The Liverpool striker scores goals for fun at club level but seems to always have a problem scoring on the international front.
Torres made his competitive debut for Liverpool against Aston Villa after signing a four year mega deal after he was bought by Benitez off Athletico Madrid.
Altogether for Liverpool, he has 116 games played and 72 goals scored.
He links up very well with Steven Gerrard and after both of them having a poor world cup they will be delighted if their partnership blasts Liverpool back to the Top Four in the PL.
Following his appointment as Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson stated Torres would not be sold by the club, saying "He is not for sale and we don't welcome any offers for him. We want to keep him."
Will fan favorite Torres impress us this season at Liverpool or will he give us more disappointment?
