Imagine if you had a tackler coming at you, but you had no idea how strong it was or how to take it down.

That's what the pro surfer deals with everyday. They tackle Mother Nature, yet when you see them emerge from the water, they have this look of rebirth and exhilaration.

It's a lifestyle I admittedly know little about, as I have next to zero coordination.

But I do have an immense appreciation for those that tackle the gods of the ocean. Especially when they are as gorgeous as the 20 surfer babes in this slideshow.

This Australian is one of the up-and-comers on the pro scene. She won the ASP World Junior Championships this year in her home waters near North Narrabeen.

The Hawaii native is helping surfers break through to the mainstream.

She was recently featured on a Gatorade billboard with Serena Williams in downtown L.A.

She's more of a model than a competitive surfer, but she is a welcomed member of the community.

This Brazilian is known for taking on some of the biggest waves in the world and is a four-time winner of the Billabong XL Big Wave Awards "Female Performer of the Year."

The Brazilian beauty is a member of the Women's World Championship Tour, where her best finish is ninth.

Hailey is one of the infamous surfing Partridge twins along with her sister Sierra.

She also enjoys yoga, horseback riding, running and reading, and has been surfing since she was a toddler in the waters of Santa Cruz, Calif.

Erickson is a California-Hawaii hybrid who has proven her worth with such places as a 2007 bronze medal at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Portugal.

She was born in Connecticut and raised in Hawaii, where she found her passion for the waves.

She has been on the WCT since 1998 and has scored seven career tour wins.

13. Jenny Useldinger

Useldinger is one of the fearless big-wave riders and an amateur singer.

"I think it’s pretty amazing," she once said of taking on the biggest waves on the planet. "Women are definitely charging and breaking new ground. It’s really exciting to see the women getting so fired up out there, and it’s definitely seeming like it’s a man’s world out there, but I don’t think they mind the girls out there."

She's been surfing since she was 11 in the waters near Newport Beach, Calif.

Hosseini regularly tries to pass herself off as a tomboy on her Grind.tv show, but the photos say otherwise.

Hodge was named the most improved surfer on the world tour in 2009.

10. Daize Shayne

Shayne is a surfer, a recording artist, and a model who has appeared in magazines like Maxim around the world.

She's appeared in print ads alongside Britney Spears and is one of the favorites on the competitive circuit.

9. Lani Doherty

The 17-year-old is one of the next generation of surfing stars.

She was a member of the USA Surf Team at the Quiksilver ISA World Games in April.

8. Karina Petroni

She's only 18 but has been competing on tours since she was nine years old.

Petroni is the youngest surfer ever to hold three amateur titles and score a win on the pro circuit. She won the Eastern, U.S. and National Championship titles.

7. Missy Gibson

Gibson has been one of the favorites on tour for years but has recently taken to the music world, forming a rock band named Breech that plays heavily in L.A.

6. Veronica Kay

She began as a pro surfer at age 13, but Veronica quickly realized that the TV cameras were her calling.

She's been modeling for magazines like Maxim and Stuff and appearing in reality TV shows ever since.

The Florida native is a self-taught surfer and a multiple event winner.

When she's not surfing, Alves loves to play clarinet. She's been playing since she was a kid and focuses on jazz and classical music.

4. Holly Beck

Beck didn't take up surfing until she was 15 but has made up for lost time.

Other than her surfing career, Beck has appeared in Rolling Stone and Teen People as a model and on the 2003 reality TV show Boarding House: North Shore.

The 23-year-old was born in L.A. but moved to Hawaii at age five, where she discovered surfing.

She's won a number of awards on her board, including the Association of Professional Surfer’s Triple Crown Rookie of the Year, the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s women’s championship, and the Pro Surf Tour of America’s women’s tour championship.
