2010 The Year of the Pitcher
The first half of the 2010 MLB season has belonged to the pitcher.  With no hitters and perfect games from Ubaldo  Jimenez, Dallas Braden, Roy Halladay  and Edwin Jackson  and near no hitters from Ted Lilly who lost his in the top of the 9th to Juan Pierre and Armando Galarraga who lost his on a bad call by first base umpire Jim Joyce, the pitchers have been dominating a game that has been dominated by the hitters for the 30 years.  There have been 21 starting pitchers this season that have taken a no hitter into the 6th inning this year.  Right now there are 19 starting pitchers who have an ERA under 3.00.  There are  currently 20 starting pitchers that have 10 or more wins four into the 2nd half of the season
Pitching Stats
Florida Marlins ace Josh Johnson  currently is 10-3 with an ERA of 1.62 and has pitched 16 consecutive quality starts.  Colorado Rockies ace Ubaldo  Jimenez  is 15-1 with and ERA of 2.20.  Ubaldo is the first pitcher this season to 15 wins and is the first pitcher since David Wells  in 2000 and Pedro Martinez  in 1999 to have 15 wins before the All Star Break.  There are 11 teams that have a team ERA under 4.00 with the San Diego Padres leading with an ERA of 3.13.

Top 5 Starting Pitchers

1. Josh Johnson, FLA,        10-3, 1.62ERA, 0.97WHIP and 130K's

2. Adam Wainwright, STL, 14-5, 2.02ERA, 1.00WHIP and 130K's

Rookie Pitchers
There have been many rookie pitchers to make there debut this season and make a big impact or big news because of hype.  Mike Leake  of the Cincinnati Reds started the season in the rotation and didn't pitch a single inning in the minors since being taken 8th overall in last years first player draft.  Leake is 6-1 with an ERA of 3.53 so far this season.  Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker has said that Leake's innings will be monitored and he will be shut down at some point during the season. Which may be hard for the Reds with there three game lead in the division over the Cardinals.  The biggest name of the rookie pitchers is Washington Nationals Stephen Strasburg .  Strasburg was taken number one overall in last years draft.  Strasburg is 4-2 and has an ERA of 2.03 and has 68 strikeouts in only 48.2 innings.  Nationals manager Jim Riggelman has said they will shutdown Strasburg and he will pitch only 150 innings this season.  San Diego Padres rookie starting pitcher Matt Latos  (Currently on DL) is only 22 years old and has a record of 10-4 and and ERA of 2.45 and 99K's.  Latos is one of the reasons the Padres have the best team ERA in baseball this season.  Texas Rangers closer Neftali  Feliz  is currently tied for 2nd in the majors with 25 saves and has dominated the 9th inning in Arlington with his blazing 100MPH fastball.  Feliz is currently sporting a 3.76ERA and has 46K's .

AL Cy Young:  David Price , Rays, 12-4, 2.42ERA and 100K's

NL Cy Young:  Ubaldo  Jimenez,  Rockies, 15-1, 2.38ERA and 115K's

So needless to say this first half of the 2010 season has been dominated by the pitcher.  I expect more pitching just like this for the 2nd half of the season.
