Alabama's 2011 Recruiting Class: Who's In, Who's Out, and on the Bubble?

Alabama is putting together one of the top recruiting classes in the country. Right now exists a tight race with LSU and Georgia for domination of the SEC, but Florida isn't too far behind and a ton of talented players remained unsigned.
So what does the Crimson Tide have locked up so far?
Who slipped away and who's still on the fence?
Let's take a look at all of Alabama's commitments to this point, as well as the 4- and 5-star prospects who've spurned their offers and chosen different schools.
Of course, the most important part at this point is figuring out who's left that the team is still pursuing. If coach Nick Saban can land just a few of the big names he's extended offers too, Alabama might just surpass Texas for the top class in the country.
Who's In: 5-Star Recruits
Players: Two
Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix (S), Brent Calloway (OLB)
Alabama already has a couple 5-star commitments on the books with Clinton-Dix and Brent Calloway. While the team already has great depth and talent at these positions, these are two players ready to be the next stars for the Crimson Tide.
Clinton-Dix has ideal size and skill for either safety position and if he can fine-tune his coverage skills a little, at 6'3" and 190 lbs, he could be a once in a lifetime-type cover corner.
Calloway is a two-way starter in high school, playing running back and linebacker, but his future is definitely on the defensive side of the ball. He had 22 sacks his junior year and is one of the quickest pass-rushers in the nation.
Who's In: 4-Star Recruits
Players: Seven
Offense: Marvin Shinn (WR), Danny Woodson (WR), Bradley Sylve (WR), Ryan Kelly (C)
Defense: LaMichael Fanning (DE), Shannon Brown (MLB), Jabriel Washington, (CB)
Alabama tripled down on their bet at the receiver position, bringing in three 4-star guys that each have a lot of potential. None more than Marvin "Marvellous" Shinn. He's a home run waiting to happen on any single play, and one of the most exciting players in the nation.
They've also got the No. 2 center in the country in Kelly, and all three of their commitments on the defensive side of the ball are in the top 15 at their respective positions.
Other than brining in three receivers, one of who will likely end up transferring, the haul of talent is diverse and complementary.
Who's In: 3-Star Recruits
Players: Six
Offense: Daryl Collins (WR), Malcolm Faciane (TE), Isaac Luatua (OG),
Defense: D.J. Pettway (DT), Quinton Dial (DT), Vinnie Sunseri (MLB)
Of all of these players, Quinton Dial is the one to watch. He's a junior college transfer that's flown under the radar someone, but has the size and strength to be a solid nose tackle down the line.
Alabama doesn't have someone with the ideal skill-set or size on the current roster to take that role and will be looking for the next Terrance Cody until they find him; which could take forever.
Dial is far from being able to do that, but he's a great project for the coaches to bring along.
Who's Out: 5-Star Recuits
Players:
Offense: Braxton Miller (QB), Christian LeMay (QB), Mike Bellamy (RB), Christian Westerman (OT)
Defense: Desmond Jackson (DT), Lawrence Thomas (MLB)
The 5-star loses at this point haven't been too bad for Alabama, but many offers are still out on the table so the tides could turn either way at this point.
Losing Bellamy, Thomas and Westerman isn't too concerning as these are positions the team has a lot of depth at. Jackson could be one Alabama wishes they got if things don't go their way with one of the other premiere defensive tackles.
As for Miller, there really wasn't a shot with this Ohio product, he was going to become a Buckeye all along. LeMay will be playing in the SEC at Georgia and could be a classic "what if" case, especially if Philip Simms doesn't pan out in a couple years.
Who's Out: 4-Star Recruits
Players: 17
Offense: Kenny Hilliard (RB), Marlin Lane (RB), Chris Conley (WR), Jordan Prestwood (TE), Brey Cook (OT), Darrian Miller (OT), Watts Dantzler (OT), Sedrick Flowers (OG), Reese Dismukes (C)
Defense: Jeoffrey Pagan (DE), Jabrian Niles (DE), Terrance Smith (DE) Michael Bennett (DT), C.J. Johnson (MLB), James Vaughters (MLB), Josh Turner (CB), Quandre Diggs (CB), Karlos Williams, (S)
17 names might seem like a lot, but when you hand out over 100 offers, there are bound to be quite a few who go a different route. Looking at all the names on this list, there are still many players available at each position here that are either comparable or better talents.
So it the chips continue to fall the right way, there won't be any serious losses here. Kenny Hilliard and Marlin Lane are both solid running backs, but Alabama is stacked at the position and has offers out to several 5-star prospects.
That's how it's going for pretty much every position you could look at.
Who's On The Bubble: 5-Star Recruits
Players: 17
Offense: Malcolm Brown (RB), Isaiah Crowell (RB), Aaron Green (RB), Savon Huggins (RB), Rodney Coe (RB), Kasen Williams (WR), Jay Rome (TE), Cyrus Kouandjio (OT), Brandon Shell (OT),
Defense: Tim Jernigan (DT), Jadeveon Clowney (DE), Ray Drew (DE), Jermauria Rasco (DE), Tony Steward (MLB), Curtis Grant (MLB), James Wilder Jr. (OLB/RB), Trey DePriest (OLB)
The list of uncommitted 5-star prospects Alabama still has offers out to is huge and if they land just a couple of these guys they'll have one of the top classes in the country.
Kouandjio, Brown, Williams, Rome, Jernigan, Clowney, Steward, and Wilder are all the No. 1 prospect at their respective positions. Alabama has a legitimate shot at each of these players, but some are much more likely than others.
Kouandijo's older brother is one of Alabama's 2010 recruits, Rome seems enamoured with the school, Brown lists Alabama as one of his top choices, and Clowney has Alabama in his top two.
Who's On The Bubble: 4-Star Recruits (The Top 20)
Players: 19
Offense: Quan Bray (RB), Shon Carson (RB), DeAnthony Arnett (WR), Quinta Funderburk (WR), Tobias Singleton (WR), Devon Blackmon (WR), Ladarius Brown (WR), Antonio Richardson (OT), C.J. Uzomah (TE)
Defense: Phillip Dukes (DT), Gabe Wright (DT), Xzavier Dickson (DE), Aaron Lynch (DE), Curt Maggitt (OLB), A.J. Johnson (OLB), Malcolm Mitchell (CB), Erique Florence (S), Wayne Lyons (S), Damian Swann (CB/S)
Alabama's offers still out there to 4-star prospects is only two more than those that remain out there for 5-star prospects. That just shows you that these guys are aiming big as always.
Of all the players on this list, even though it doesn't meet a need, receiver DeAnthony Arnett is the most compelling. Nick Saban might already have three 4-star wideouts committed, but besides Marvin Shinn, none of them are too exciting; Arnett is though. He and Shinn would make a serious duo down the line.
On defense, if Tim Jernigan spurs them, Alabama is going to really want one of the defensive tackles they still have offers out too. Yes, the team has options at the nose and there is optimism that a couple of their young guys will pan out, but that's still the major question mark of the defense and has to be addressed.
