Tag team wrestling has brought us some of the greatest matches and teams in wrestling history.
A great tag team consists of two guys that have good chemistry together (most of the time) and together put on great matches and win titles.
From, legendary performances like Wrestlemania 17's TLC match, to the great tag teams like the British Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation, this type of wrestling match can steal the show at a PPV or cement a wrestler's place in the Hall of Fame.
With the recent drought in talent in the tag team division in pro wrestling, a lot of fans forget that this past decade overall was a huge success in tag team wrestling.
I have created this slideshow to highlight the 10 greatest tag teams of the past decade.
Now, in the rankings I considered how good of a match the teams put on and how many titles they won. Some choices might be a surprise, and others will be pretty obvious.
Enjoy !
Honorable Mention
Team Canada
MNM
Motor City Machine Guns (pictured)
Paul London and Brian Kendrick
Brothers Of Destruction
La Resistance
Spirit Squad
Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit
Big Show and Kane
10. Jeri-Show
Stats in decade:
1x WWE Tag Team Champions
1x World Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Roughly five months
How could a wrestling fan not love this duo?
You have the best in the world and the biggest in the world joining together in a tag team. They didn't stick around for a long time but, they were dominant.
If Edge didn't end up getting injured, this team would have never come to be.
The raw power of The Big Show filled in for the lack of power in Jericho, and the athleticism in Jericho filled in the lack of mobility in Big Show.
I hoped they would stick around a little longer but, now both are on separate shows.
9. The World's Greatest Tag Team
Stats in decade:
2x WWE Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Three months
The tremendous combo of Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas lands on this list.
These two represented pure athleticism; both were great in the ring, and extremely underrated.
They started their careers out in a tag team, then split before getting back together before Haas's release and then eventually Benjamin's.
Both could have been either great singles wrestlers or a phenomenal tag team if they were used properly.
8. Beer Money
Stats in decade:
3x TNA Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Little over four months
"Cowboy" James Storm and Robert Roode come in at No. 8.
They have two reigns as champs that are about four months and could be the best tag team in wrestling today.
They don't get too fancy in the ring, but they get it done. They have a good gimmick and have established themselves as one of the greatest teams in the history of TNA.
But, their day in the sun might be over because of the arrival of the Motor City Machine Guns.
7. AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels
Stats in decade:
2x NWA Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Three months
This team had it all—two TNA originals and two great performers.
They had great matches against each other, but would deliver great matches as a team.
Their match vs. LAX in Ultimate X is one of the best matches in TNA history,.
They didn't stick around that long, as they formed in 2006 and disbanded late that year.
AJ has become the face of TNA but, "The Fallen Angel" is no longer with the company due to salary issues.
6. Triple X
Stats in decade:
3x NWA Tag Team Champion
Longest Reign: Four months
The team of Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper and Low-Ki (Kaval) would form a stable known as Triple X.
Even though only two members of the group would hold the titles, all the members of the group would be recognized as the champions.
They would all frequently help each other out in both tag team and singles matches.
Triple X engaged in one of the best feuds in TNA history with rival group AMW.
All three would also have separate stints where they would reunite, but when Daniels' singles career took off they were no longer together.
Skipper and Daniels are on the independents and Low-Ki is on WWE's NXT as Kaval.
5. Latin American Exchange
Stats in decade:
2x NWA Tag Team Champions
1x TNA Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Little over six months
LAX is in the top five.
Before they became proud Latino heroes, they were basically thugs who wanted to go against the system. They were angry at America and almost burned the American flag.
This became a good stable, consisting of the big man Hernandez and the more agile Homicide.
They had success with three major tag team title reigns and they stayed around for while, from 2006 to 2009, having some good feuds with Styles and Daniels and with Triple X.
4. The Hardy Boyz
Stats in decade:
5x World Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Two months
Brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy fly into the top five.
Along with Edge and Christian and the Dudleyz they delivered some great matches.
Back in the Attitude Era, the titles would change hand almost every week so, they never really had them long.
Over the years, the team has disbanded and both Hardyz have had great singles careers.
Matt has become a former ECW and US Champion, and Jeff has become a three-time World Champion.
3. Team 3-D
Stats in decade:
8x World Tag Team Champions
1x WWE Tag Team Champions
2x TNA Tag Team Champions
1x NWA Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Three months
Brother Ray and Brother Devon have been together their entire careers, and have won a record 22 tag team titles.
This past decade was a stamp on their amazing careers, with a combined 12 major tag team titles—more tag titles then any other team in the decade.
I would have put them higher, but they never held the titles for a extremely long time. Again, victims of the Attitude Era.
Still, three is a good place for Team 3-D.
2. Edge and Christian
Stats in decade:
7x World Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Three months
The two surfer teens Edge and Christian finish at No. 2.
They were better then the Hardyz and more athletic then Team 3-D.
They were a great stable, and they had the look, ring ability, and of course, loads of charisma and mic ability.
They won two TLC matches at WrestleMania, and both put on great performances.
After splitting up, both would go on to have great singles careers.
Christian became a two-time NWA Heavyweight Champion and Edge became a nine-time World Champion.
1. America's Most Wanted
Stats in decade:
6x NWA Tag Team Champions
Longest Reign: Eight months
A lot of arguments can be made for any of the teams on this list. But I have to pick TNA's greatest tag team ever as the No. 1 stable of the past decade.
AMW brought stability to the tag team division in TNA, which was lacking in talent.
They had great feuds with Styles and Daniels, Triple X, Team Canada, and LAX.
The duo of James Storm and Chris Harris really were a perfect match because both were similar type wrestlers and they communicated well in the ring.
James Storm would go on to stab Harris in the back, and AMW would disband.
Storm is still with the company, while Harris is an independent.
Entire List
1. AMW
2. Edge and Christian
3. Team 3-D
4. Hardyz
5. LAX
6. Triple X
7. Styles and Daniels
8. Beer Money
9. TWGTT
10. Jeri-Show
