Green Bay Packers wide receiver Shaun Bodiford on season ending injured reserve on Monday.

The move came as a surprise. It was known that Bodiford was having back problems during the team's minicamp, but the severity of the issue was unknown.

In a way, the move likely prolonged Bodiford's career with the Packers another year. With the addition of Jordy Nelson, it was unlikely that Bodiford made the team's roster unless he somehow found his way onto the team as a sixth receiver.

  • B/R Ticket Guide

Bodiford spent several weeks on the 53 man roster last year but got little playing time. His value came mostly as a return specialist.

Even with the subtraction of Bodiford, there's still a glut of wideouts on the team. Assuming Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Ruvell Martin and Nelson make up the top five, there still might be pressure to keep six due to the talent.

Competing for a sixth spot might be seventh round draft choice Brett Swain, holdover Chris Francies and undrafted rookie Jake Allen.
