Fans of the New York Jets and the National Football League will definitely have a lot to cheer about this summer as Rex Ryan and the rest of the "Gang Green" take their show to the airwaves as they are slated to be the centerpiece of the HBO series "Hard Knocks: Training Camp With The New York Jets."
Coming off of a remarkable 2009 campaign in which the Jets fell a mere 30 minutes short of their first Super Bowl appearance since winning Super Bowl III, key off-season acquisitions LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Cromartie, Jason Taylor, and Santonio Holmes have the Jets primed for another Super Bowl run and an extremely entertaining summer for reality-TV fans.
This season of "Hard Knocks" will be sure to draw upon elements from other famous reality TV shows and made-for-HBO series. Will Taylor display some dance moves? How much weight has Rex Ryan actually lost since his gastric bypass procedure? Will the Jets' most eligible bachelor Mark Sanchez officially give his Rose Bowl rose to Meadow Soprano?
The answers to these questions remain to be seen. One thing is for certain, there are many reasons to look forward to this season of "Hard Knocks" which brings us to this week's list: Jets Take to The Air: ten Reasons Hard Knocks is Going to Rock This Year.
"Yo TO- I love me some me!"
"No Ocho, I love ME some me!"
What happens when two attention-starved wide receivers who love themselves more than life itself meet face-to-face?
Fortunately, viewers won't learn the answer to that question as Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens won't be making any appearances on "Hard Knocks" this time around.
In the words of Ochocinco during last season's Hard Knocks, it is time for both of these guys to "Kiss Da Baby!"
If you can't beat them, join them.
That's exactly what former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has done after suffering two playoff losses at the hands of the New York Jets.
The newest LT comes to New York at a time when the original LT (former New York Giants Hall-of-Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor) is facing a world of legal troubles stemming from statutory rape and solicitation charges.
Only time will tell if the newest version of LT can help bring a Super Bowl championship to the Jets like the old LT did for his Giants.
So it might not be exactly like "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" but "Antonio & Rex Plus Seven" is reality in its own right
Will Head Coach Rex Ryan manage to keep smiling as he helps new Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie cope with football and the responsibilities that stem from having fathered seven different children? By six different women...in five different states?
Tune in to find out.
Newest Jets "me-first" wide receiver Santonio Holmes knows how to play to the crowd and will certainly provide some entertaining moments on "Hard Knocks".
Unfortunately for his teammates and football fans, "Hard Knocks" will be the last anyone will see of Holmes until Week five of the NFL's regular season.
Up until then, Holmes will be at home serving a 4 game suspension for an undisclosed drug-related policy.
On the bright side, at least he didn't lead an underground dog-fighting ring.
He played for the Miami Dolphins. He always expressed his disdain for the New York Jets and their fans. He was a contestant on the hit show "Dancing With The Stars."
So many reasons for Jets players and fans to hate Jason Taylor, yet he's on their side now which poses some serious questions: how will the locker room react towards his presence? Will Fireman Ed and the rest of the Jets faithful forgive and forget?
Taylor will need to rely on his dancing prowess as he most certainly will need to spin his way out of at least a couple of awkward situations.
Will he flip the bird or reach for a kleenex?
Will he flip you the bird and then hand you a kleenex?
Will someone flip the bird towards him which will make him reach for a Kleenex?
The possibilities are endless but one thing's for sure: with a personality like New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan's you never know what you're going to get.
That's what will keep fans guessing while watching the upcoming season of "Hard Knocks".
Rex guarantees it.
Speaking of guarantees, that brings us to the person in our next slide...
It's hard to tell what was funnier at the time- Jets legendary former quaterback Joe Namath drunken plea to Suzy "I wanna kiss you" Kolber or Suzy Kolber's botox-style smile that she somehow managed to keep on her face during this memorable sideline interview from December 20, 2003.
Aside from this awkward moment, Broadway Joe Namath is synonymous with Jets football.
He brought the team to its first and only Super Bowl. He set the standard by which all sports guarantees are measured against, having talked the talk and walked the walk by beating the Baltimore Colts and winning the only Super Bowl in the history of the Jets.
No matter what team you root for, any football fan would enjoy seeing Broadway Joe make an appearance or two on "Hard Knocks".
Just keep him away from sideline reporters.
What would HBO's "Hard Knocks" be if there weren't any hard knocks to show for it?
Jets linebacker Bart Scott will be doing his part to prevent that from happening.
Scott, in his second season with the Jets, has gained a league-wide reputation as one of the fiercest, in-your-face, trash-talking linebackers in the entire NFL.
He also is one of the toughest and hardest-hitting.
There's a reason why he's often referred to as "The Madbacker" by his coach and teammates and Hard Knocks fans will be sure to find out why.
What do Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, and Chad Ochocinco have in common?
Aside from their loud mouths, all three of these receivers and numerous others were completely thrown off their games by the Jets' All-Pro, shut-down cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Wide receivers were such non-factors that Revis declared each one of them as having been lost on "Revis Island."
However, Revis Island has been faced with some stormy weather lately.
Not happy with his current contract, Revis has previously threatened a hold-out during training camp but has since stated that he will report on time.
How will his contract status affect his relationship with teammates? Will his effort be the same? With training camp set to begin on August 1st and the first episode of "Hard Knocks" scheduled to premiere on August 11th, we will soon see if the number one shut-down cornerback in the NFL somehow finds himself lost on his own island.
OK, so two thoughts have probably crossed your mind:
First: "I know she's great to look at but HOW does Meadow Soprano make it to a list that's supposed to be about the Jets and Hard Knocks?"
Second: "If Meadow Soprano HAS managed to make it to a list about the Jets and Hard Knocks then how the heck does she make it to the TOP of the mountain?"
Well folks, you'll just have to read on to find out just how all of this drama unfolds...
Jamie-Lynn Sigler starred in the HBO hit series "The Sopranos."
When "The Sopranos" went off the air, Sigler guest-starred on the HBO series "Entourage."
While appearing on "Entourage," Sigler played the love interest of Turtle, the heavy-set loser (played by Jerry Ferrara) who lives off of the success of actor Vincent Chase (played by real-life actor Adrian Grenier).
Following so far? Good, let's continue...
Apparently love was brewing on and off the set of Entourage, as Sigler and Ferrara dated for awhile.
However, as you can clearly see in the photo, although she was with Turtle she really had her eyes on Chase which leads us to our next slide...
No longer able to hide her feelings for Vincent Chase, Sigler broke up with Turtle-Ferrara so she could pursue the true object of her affection, Chase-Grenier.
However, and much to her dismay, Sigler soon came to realize that Grenier already had a girlfriend--Isabel Lucas, the co-star of the "Transformers 2" movie. What was a Soprano to do?
Shattered that Vincent Chase would never be hers, Sigler soon realized what most Jets and Entourage fans already knew....
...New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez might not be Vincent Chase but he's pretty darn close!
With her eyes wide open to the possibility of settling for the next-best thing to Chase, Sigler had her people contact Sanchez's people and at the end of April, the two met at NYC's Tribeca Film Festival--which leads us to our next slide...
At first, Sanchez denied any romantic involvement with Sigler.
As he told radio station KLAC in Los Angeles, "I met her at an event at the Tribeca Film Festival, and we were both compensated for being there and both happened to be in the same place."
He continued: "So they took all these pictures of us watching the video, kind of doing what we were supposed to do so it looked like we were awfully close. But yeah, she's a sweetheart, we've hung out across New York.."
Most likely well aware of the fact that Sigler truly longs for Vincent Chase, he added, "She's a great girl, but I mean she could probably do much better than me."
Which brings us to our next and final slide...
After initially dispelling rumors of their romantic interludes, Sanchez and Sigler showed up together at the June Tony Awards and confirmed they are a couple.
As he stated in an interview with In Touch Magazine, “Things have been going well. She’s just a sweetheart. We have our own commitments, and then when we get our own time together, it’s great.”
Great! That is--until Sigler realizes that Grenier and Lucas have recently split up.
Will Meadow Soprano continue to date the sophomore Jets quaterback or will she once again begin her pursuit of the real Vincent Chase?
Tune in to HBO's "Hard Knocks: Training Camp With The New York Jets" to see what happens next in the Sigler-Chase-Sanchez love triangle.
