Illinois Football: Chip Long To Be Named TE Coach

The search for a new TE coach to replace Greg Nord is officially complete.

Chip Long, a graduate assistant specializing in tight ends at Arkansas under head coach Bobby Petrino, has accepted the vacancy and will be coaching along side Illinois head coach Ron Zook.

He will also be teaming up with former Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, who accepted the offensive coordinator position at Illinois last December.

Before Long worked as a graduate assistant in Fayetteville, he worked under Paul Petrino and current Illini QB coach Jeff Brohm at Louisville, working with the wide receivers and quarterbacks.

Long played tight end and wide receiver at North Alabama from 2002-2005. He was a multi-year starter and in 2005 earned All-America, first-team All-South Region and first-team All-Gulf South Conference honors.

An official announcement regarding the hiring of Long should come within the next two weeks.
