WWE Money in the Bank – Updated Card and Predictions
Personally, I’m pumped up for the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view. It’s definitely shaping up to be one of the better PPVs in a while. Let’s face it, since WrestleMania, they’ve been lackluster, at best.
Extreme Rules just seemed like a really good episode of Monday Night Raw, I didn’t even see Over the Hill, erm… excuse me, Over the Limit (that was the night of the Lost finale, the decision was simple), but from what I hear, it was nothing too special. Lastly, there was Fatal 4 Way, which had a short card going into the night, so I’m sure that affected the PPV sales.
Maybe WWE is skimping on these couple months to bring us something great for and leading up to Summerslam. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking. But regardless of the past few months, I think this PPV will turn out being a great one. Here’s the breakdown, in no particular order.
Unified Tag Team Championship Match
Unified Tag Team Champions The Hart Dynasty vs. The Usos
As two of the WWE’s most competitive families clash at Money in the Bank, you’d think there’d be a little more hype for this match on Monday nights. This is surprisingly the match I’m looking forward to the least, although everyone involved has the potential to make this match a showstopper. When I say showstopper, I mean it could go either way. David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd have proven that they have the potential to perform with the best of them but, do they usually? No.
In my opinion, they usually flop. I’m surprised they were given the titles in the first place as they’re both pretty terrible on the mic. Basically, I’m saying this match could stop the show or it could grind the show to a halt as the competitors fall on their faces.
Prediction – The Hart Dynasty will retain cleanly, with attempted interference from Tamina. Natalya will take care of her.
Women's Championship Match
Women's Champion Layla vs. Kelly Kelly
This little feud has been getting interesting to me and I’m actually a little bit excited as Kelly Kelly has her first championship opportunity. I think we all remember her ECW debut with Kelly's Exposé. ‘Nuff said.
But times are different now. Kelly has a legitimate title opportunity this Sunday and a legitimate opponent in Layla. The question we should be asking ourselves is what kind of role will Layla’s co-Women’s Champion and fellow Lay-Cool member, Michelle McCool, play? I have a feeling that any interference McCool tries to play in the match will quickly be cancelled out by Tiffany.
Prediction – Kelly Kelly wins Women’s Championship cleanly.
Diva's Championship Match
Divas Champion Alicia Fox vs. Eve
After feigning an ankle injury to retain her title, the Raw GM forced Alicia Fox into a corner by granting Eve another rematch. Personally, I think this decision is bull. Fox's acting was a legitimate strategy, but regardless, we have a Diva's title match. Will Eve regain the title at Money in the Bank? Or will Alicia Fox live up to her namesake and use her slyness to capture the victory and retain the title?
Prediction - Alicia Fox retains.
Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Big Show vs. Matt Hardy vs. Christian vs. Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston vs. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes vs. Kane vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler
I’m really tentative to make any kind of prediction for either of the ladder matches, because they’re so unpredictable. With giants like Big Show and Kane, high flyers in Kofi Kingston and Cody Rhodes (he’s trying to, at least), ladder match veterans like Christian and Matt Hardy, and newcomers thirsty for glory in Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler, this match should be especially interesting. We’re in for something special here.
Prediction – I like McIntyre’s odds here. Like I said, I don’t even want to make a prediction here, but he sticks out to me. I feel like it needs to be a young guy. Maybe he’ll flaunt it in front of Teddy Long to continue that story. Or maybe I’m completely off and it’ll be either Big Show or Kane.
Raw Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Randy Orton vs. John Morrison vs. Evan Bourne vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge vs. United States Champion The Miz vs. Mark Henry
Not only am I excited because of most of the competitors in this match, I’m excited to see who the winner will be. First, I’ll say who it won’t be. It will not be Orton or Jericho. Orton had long title runs in 2009 and Jericho is at the point of his career where he’s better off putting younger superstars over. Jericho is great enough that he doesn’t need a title to keep everyone interested. I also can’t see Edge winning it. He needs to continue his feud with Orton into Summerslam, titleless. Finally, I can't imagine them giving Mark Henry a world title. Just no. Nothing against his skills, it just wouldn't make any sense to me.
Although Morrison deserves it, I don’t think they’ll give him a world title push just yet. Same goes for DiBiase. That leaves Bourne and The Miz.
Prediction – I’m going with Evan Bourne. Can you imagine Bourne vs. Sheamus at Summerslam?
World Heavyweight Championship Match
World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Jack Swagger
The storyline leading up to this match still needs to play out, with Kane and Swagger, that is. I feel like that will have something to do with it. Depending on whether or not Swagger can convince Kane of his innocence (which I believe), will affect this match. Another question we need to ask is if Mysterio’s ankle is 100%. Two weeks of devastating ankle locks from the #1 contender may have damaged him enough to lose the title.
Prediction – Jack Swagger will win the World Heavyweight Championship, perhaps making Rey tap out to his ankle lock.
WWE Championship Steel Cage Match
WWE Champion Sheamus vs. John Cena
The steel cage is meant to protect the integrity of the match and to prevent outside interference in this match, namely, The Nexus. Just because there is a cage there, that doesn’t mean they can’t affect the match. They could easily slip Sheamus a pipe or something to help him win the match (this is a no disqualification match, right?). Even the presence of them outside the steel would affect Cena’s mental game.
Prediction – Sheamus will retain due to Nexus interference. Easiest prediction I've ever made.
I know, there are a couple far fetched ideas in here, but this would definitely keep me interested in Nexus. I should write for the WWE. What are your predictions? How will the WWE lead us into Summerslam?
