USA's Dream Soccer team
The World Cup is over. United States performed well, but their dominance in other sports did not translate to soccer. If the following American athletes used their athleticism and talent for soccer, perhaps U.S. could have been the champions of the world.
The United States have many top athletes thanks to its wonderful dedication to young sportsmen. If it only spent its efforts on the sport that everyone watches...
The U.S. will feature the conventional 4-4-2 formation.
Without further ado, I introduce you to the dream U.S. soccer team consisting of current athletes top of their game.
Dwight Howard Center- Orlando Magic
The team already has a Howard so the jersey would not need to be changed.
Dwight's athleticism, defensive mindset, and great size will make him a superb goal keeper. His height and jumping ability will deny any headers and allow him to cover much of the net.
Kevin Garnett PF- Boston Celtics
Center back is the anchor of a team's defense. He is the vocal leader.
K.G. already has this role for the 2008 NBA champions.
His height and athleticism will give him superiority in the air while his toughness will allow defending corner kicks and set pieces relatively easy
Ed Reed FS- Baltimore Ravens
Center backs need to close down opening spaces and make sure that balls in the air do not reach their targets.
Ed Reed is one of the greatest ball hawking safeties who would track down long passes to make sure the winning goal that Ghana scored on U.S. would never happen.
Again, toughness is another important quality that this guy has-in bunches.
Chad Ochocinco WR- Cincinnati Bengals
In soccer, right backs not only provide defensive presence, but also support attack. Ochocinco's size and speed allows him to be a great man marker and also be great in brining up the ball the midfield.
He has also shown great leg strength which means he can give good long balls and crosses.
His love for soccer and his bubbly attitude also helps team.
Matt Bosher. Kicker- University of Miami
He has shown decent athleticism and toughness in tackling down opponents during kickoffs.
He obviously has superior leg strength. Like right backs, left backs focus on defense.
Bosher's strong legs can clear balls in danger areas with ease.
Darrelle Revis CB- New York Jets
Defensive midfielders often guard their man one-on-one whether it be forwards or attacking midfielders.
Revis is known for his lock down defending and his relentless coverage will stifle any attacking midfielder.
Ray Allen SG-Boston Celtics
Anybody see amazing free kicks and long shots in this world cup? Every soccer team needs a deadly long-range shooter.
Long shot accuracy is this man's specialty. Had he been practicing kicks instead of jump shots, he could have made Beckham and Ronaldo look like YMCA soccer players.
Chris Johnson RB- Tennessee Titans
Complementing the deadly bomber is the rocket. Every soccer team needs a lightning quick dribbler to venture forward and break down a team's defense.
His breakaway speed also allows him to get free for easy one-on-one chances that Robben couldn't turn into goals...
Central Attacking Midfielder
Chris Paul PG- New Orleans Hornets
Attacking midfielders need to have good pace (dribbling speed) and good vision. Playmaking midfielders (Cenral Attacking Midfielders) are essentially the point guard of a basketball team, And who is a better piont guard than Chris Paul?
His quickness, vision, unselfishness, leadership, and his height (6') would be the perfect key stone to the offense.
Kobe Bryant SG- Los Angeles Lakers
Who else? The clinical, cruel finisher. Highly skilled, highly motivated, unstoppable, proven winner.
His offensive game consisting of penetrating drives and accurate long shots will be essential to scoring goals for U.S.
Why do you think Bryant wears 10 for the USA basketball team?
10 is usually the ace or striker of a soccer team--think Rooney.
Lebron James SF- Miami Heat
A center forward is the goal scoring force. He mostly uses brute strength and size to score goals with his head and of course, center forward's have skill too.
Who would be the perfect fit for this position than the king of South Beach (as a heat fan i'm still giddy about the "trade").
His inhuman combination of size, strength, and speed will leave defenders foolish and sprawled across the pitch, and scoring talent will translate well into goals.
It's just too bad these athletes played other sports.
