CALGARY--The Flames have hired new Assistant GM to be a resource to Darryl Sutter and his Calgary Flames today. Jay Feaster announced as their new man behind the boss.
Jay Feaster, as you may know, is the former General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. His Lightning franchise won the Stanley Cup back in 2004, last team to win the Stanley Cup pre-lockout. Feaster boasted a roster that included players like Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St.Louis, Vinny Prospal, Dan Boyle, Pavel Kubina among others that helped the franchise win its first ever Stanley Cup.
Back in 2008, the Lightning ownership changed hands, and Oren Koules/Len Barrie became the head of the Tampa Bay group. Because of their inexperience, and conflicts between two owners, Jay Feaster was odd man out.
Owner Len Barrie felt like it was his team, and everybody should listen to his hockey decision. You may have noticed. It was tragic. The owners are almost forced by the NHL to change hands to Boston investment banker Jeff Vinik.
Already, Brian Lawton, the scapegoat for Oren & Len, so-called GM is now fired, coaching staff relieved of its duties, and the team is starting fresh.
Jay Feaster knew his role, and managed his finances to make it work in Tampa Bay. This will be a very positive hiring for the Sutters. Contract negotiations will be easier as well in the future with Jay's presence.
