5 Ways LeBron's Signing Impacts Future NBA Free Agency
The LeBron James sweepstake is soon coming to a close. There were several teams vying for LeBron James' signature on a contract, but only one would remain standing and that was the Miami Heat. This free agency period with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will go down as one of the most historic in history. The signing as one of the oddest and most hated.
The stretches that people went to try and recruit one of these stars is amazing. We will examine the many ways that this changes the future approaches to free-agency in the NBA.
5. Twitter and Media Crash From Rumors
There were so many rumors and lies out there on the internet. From someone like Jared Dudley tweeting about the Knicks to sightings in New York. There were some really bad tweets out there on possible LeBron signings or leanings.
You can never tell what the new Heat star was about to do? He seemed to have flip flopped constantly and forgot about the Nets. From Alan Hahn of Newsday to Chris Broussard of ESPN, it may have always been a guessing game.
4. Free Agent Summits
Most of the NBA Free Agents that were considered "superstars" met previously to arrange and speak as where to go. Meetings like that seem to be more laid back than an actual business meeting. This could help ease the entire process for each star and starts to narrow down choices.
Next year, we could see Carmelo Anthony hold a summit like that with others. But in his free agent class, he is the best one.
3. Waiting On Others
There are many free agents that are hesitant to make a decision on their own. They may feel that a certain location may be perfect, but they want to play with a contender to win a championship.
Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade chose to start their own duo in Miami. LeBron followed them up by announcing that he will sign on Thursday night. LeBron chose to give up his legacy and take the chance at winning several NBA Championships with the Heat.
We could definitely see other players choosing to go to one place to become part of a cast that could win big. Its all a game of Follow The Leader.
2. Press Conferences
LeBron James decided to choose his team by holding a press conference with his inside group and the media. The conference will be televised on ESPN and will definitely be must-watch television. LeBron James is a superstar at this sport. He is a household name and thus people will want to know what happens to him.
Kobe Bryant could be the only player that could get more viewers if he ever chose to go down the same route as LeBron.
Carmelo may be next though.
1. Random Signing Places
LeBron James chose to sign in Greenwich, Connecticut. Why? Nobody knows why. Carmelo Anthony's wedding is in New York this weekend. But who knows where he may choose to sign or where he may even make that announcement.
Melo could decide to sign and make the announcement from Providence, Rhode Island or someplace like Northwest Arkansas. Definitely some place random like Greenwich.
