One of my favorite aspects of soccer is the fact that it truly is an international sport.
Although I am starting to get burned out on World Cup WAG pieces, admiring sexy women never gets old, so consider this my tribute to the international fans of the beautiful game.
Since the 2010 World Cup marks the first time the tournament has ever been held in Africa, it's only fitting that I begin with the host country's hottest export.
Charlize was a co-presenter for the 2010 FIFA World Cup draw in Cape Town, South Africa. During rehearsals she drew an Ireland ball instead of France as a joke, referring to Thierry Henry's handball controversy in the play off match between France and Ireland.
You've got to love a woman with a sense of humor.
This group of Dutch girls created quite a storm of media attention when authorities escorted from the stadium during the Netherlands' opening match with Denmark.
Their dresses featured the logo of Dutch beer company, Bavaria, who was not the official beer sponsor of the World Cup. The whole thing was an ambush marketing stunt (which is illegal in South Africa).
And FIFA gave Bavaria exactly the kind of free publicity they were after by making such a big deal out of the incident.
I'm all about equal opportunity representation.
Here's the opposition's sea of blonde from that same match.
Although she was a model, Larissa was a virtual unknown heading into South Africa, but this picture coupled with her promise to run through the streets naked if Paraguay won the World Cup catapulted her to fame.
What a creative place to store a cell phone.
If matches were won based on the quality of a country's fans rather than their football skills, England would not have had such a disappointing World Cup campaign.
Aishwarya has often been called the most beautiful woman in the world.
The Indian actress was a guest on Oprah along with her husband Abhishek Bacchan, son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan (if you've seen Slumdog Millionaire, he's the guy the kid jumps into the cesspool to meet).
“Abhishek and I are both soccer fans and we root for Brazil," says Aishwarya.
This girl is actually naked; her uniform is literally painted on her.
And it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "the beautiful game."
Alyssa is a big Inter Milan fan.
"I like soccer a lot I've been to a few [Los Angeles] Galaxy games. I love watching the World Cup. I like European soccer too."
Like most guys my age, I've had a huge crush on Alyssa since childhood, dating all the way back to Who's the Boss, and the fact that she's a football fan further reinforces her dream girl status.
South Korea is another team that may have gone further in the 2010 World Cup if the matches were decided by the sexiness of a country's fans.
Although I've never been a huge fan, my girlfriend thinks she's smoking hot, which is good enough for me.
An avid soccer player and sports fanatic, Jessica idolized U.S. soccer star Mia Hamm during her formative years.
"That was the person I wanted to be, not a supermodel. I love soccer. I played right-mid and could tackle, but when it was just me and the goalie, I’d whack it over the bar.”
When she did score, she used to pull her shirt over her head, but I doubt it had quite the same impact as it would now.
July is a winter month in South Africa so sexy fans were not as inclined to wear skimpy outfits during the 2010 World Cup as they have in tournament's past.
That's one reason why FIFA might be wise to stage the tournament in warmer climates, but this picture does make a case for keeping it in the winter.
Another Argentina fan who doesn't appear to be quite as nipple-ly as the last one.
I've never found Ellen Page or Drew Barrymore to be all that, but girls gain sexy points for kissing other girls in my book, which makes this the hottest picture I've ever seen of either actress.
BTW, Ellen made the list because she used to play soccer in her hometown of Nova Scotia.
These girls were no doubt saddened by Portugal's exit at the Round of 16.
Last, but certainly not least, is my sexy Sunshine. Cricket is actually her favorite sport but she likes football too.
Like many Sri Lankans, her name is of Portuguese origin so she roots for Brazil, Portugal, and now, Team USA.
I took her to a Chivas USA match for our first date.
Long story short, I had no idea she'd lost interest before that and only accepted my invitation because she wanted to see a live soccer match in the United States.
Lucky for me, she fell in love when I put my arms around her while standing in line at the cocktail cart.
Thumbs up for the beautiful game!
