cleared roughly 30 million in cap space in hopes of bringing in a big-time free agent. The hopes of getting Wade or Bosh in this year's free agent class were shattered today when it was announced that both would be signing with the Miami Heat
. It also appears that the Bulls
struck out on their sales pitch to LeBron James, with each day looking less likely that he'll sign in the Windy City. So what do they do now with all of this money?
Going after a shooting guard should be the first priority, as they traded their two guard Kirk Hinrich to the Washington Wizards
. Now Rose has nobody to compliment him at this point on the roster, which he desperately needs in order to succeed. And with Tom Thibodeau in town, and no possibility of getting Joe Johnson or Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen looks like the pretty definitive choice for the Bulls right now at shooting guard.
He wouldn't need to learn much, assuming Thibodeau instills the same offensive and defensive strategies from his days with the Boston Celtics
. Allen would feel right at home with the team. He would fit in nicely with a team composed of Rose, Deng, and Noah. It would be even better if Chicago manages to go out and also add a guy like Carlos Boozer. Allen would give the Bulls a real outside scoring threat, as none of their top players are good range-shooters.
It's strange how this free agency has played out, it's almost like Allen knew his former coach might need him. The reunion would surely produce positives for the Chicago Bulls, and bring a winning attitude back to the basketball city.
