Former WWE Champion Set to Join MMA?
After leaving the WWE a few months ago, it seems former six-time World Champion, “The Animal” Dave Batista is interested in stepping into the cage as an MMA fighter.
After Dave Batista left the WWE many believed he would pursue a career in the film industry. However, recent rumors suggest Batista may be joining the MMA group Strikeforce, instead.
Batista told TMZ that he has indeed signed with Strikeforce, refusing to mention who his first opponent will be. However, Strikeforce’s spokesperson, Mike Afromowitz, is denying that they have signed the 41-year-old.
Setting aside whether it’s true or not for a moment, it would be very interesting to see Dave Batista join the MMA Universe.
Batista’s size and strength alone is already a very dangerous factor. Batista has a great level of athleticism too. Batista stands at 6-foot-6, weighing in at 290 pounds. He has the build of a beast of a man. For his size, he remains very mobile and flexible.
In 2006, Batista apparently had a backstage brawl with Booker T in 2006 which had him on the losing end to Booker.
Booker T said that he doesn’t think Batista can “match up” with some of the big boys in Strikeforce. He added that he doesn’t think that Batista could even last five minutes in the cage with former WWE superstar, Bobby Lashley or any other Strikeforce heavyweight.
It will be interesting to see how this develops and if Batista will indeed be stepping into the cage. Batista’s debut will be a big draw for MMA. WWE fans may want to see how he fares in his first competition.
The Sports Dossier will update you on any further development from this situation with Batista and Strikeforce.
