With one of the largest Pay-per-view buyrate numbers in UFC history expected to be set Saturday for UFC 116, plenty of people will be huddled around screens across the globe to watch Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin do battle.
Among all the chatter, shouldn't you be the one with interesting facts to impress your friends or that girl who's at the neighborhood bar you've always wanted to talk to?
Now is your chance, cowboy. Here are some random fun facts you can print out and use while watching UFC 116.
Don't worry. We won't tell anyone where you got them from.
There have been 13 unique UFC Heavyweight Champions, including those with the interim tag.
- Mark Coleman
- Maurice Smith
- Randy Couture
- Bas Rutten
- Kevin Randleman
- Josh Barnett
- Ricco Rodriguez
- Tim Sylvia
- Frank Mir
- Andrei Arlovski
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
- Brock Lesnar
- Shane Carwin
Of that list, only three men have held a piece of the title multiple times: Couture, Sylvia, and Mir.
In The Interim
Carwin is the fourth UFC interim Heavyweight Champion (Arlovski, Nogueira, and Mir).
Going The Distance
Only nine UFC heavyweight title fights have gone the distance, the last being Couture's career-renewing victory over Sylvia at UFC 68 in March 2007.
Lesnar has only been to a decision once (win over Heath Herring in August 2008), while Carwin has never been past the first round.
This will be the fifth UFC match for both Lesnar and Carwin.
This will be Lesnar's first fight in almost one year. He was last seen decimating Mir at UFC 100 last July.
This will be Carwin's second match back after he was also out for a full year from March 2009 to March 2010.
Coincidentally, he returned against Mir and also destroyed him. Poor Frank.
