A fellow writer wrote about 10 sports writers to follower on twitter. The idea has sprung a myriad of athletes for people to follow on the social networking site of Twitter. It's well noted that Floyd Mayweather Jr, Shane Mosley and Oscar de La Hoya have twitter accounts.
Here are five up and coming fighters with limitless potential to follow as well. Remember these names. They will be on a marquee near you soon.
Women's boxing has been dormant for quite sometime. Sure Holly Holm has done well for herself, but all good things eventually come to an end. Enter Holly Lawson. The Canadian now residing in LA trains at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA. She has created quite a buzz there and will compete in an event at the Palm Springs soon. She will be victorious according to Freddie Roach. Whatever you do, don't tell her she's too pretty to box. She might knock you out! She definitely has the potential to carry women's boxing to the next level and beyond!
Record: 12-0 (6KOs)
Jermell is the twin brother of another pro boxer Jermall. These two brothers could very well dominate boxing in the fashion of the Klitschos. Charlo is a very gifted athlete with fast hands and power in either hand. Charlo has been given the moniker of "Ironman" and he won the bronze medal in the Junior Olympics in 2005. He will be dominating weight classes much in the fashion of Roy Jones Jr!
Record: 3-0 (3KOs)
This picture is blurry for a reason. David Martin III is a hard punching heavyweight from the Chicagoland area. None of his opponents have made it past the first round! The US is hurting for a heavyweight to bring relevance back to boxing. Martin is full of energy, swagger, confidence and power! It doesn't hurt that he's a husband and a father and works right now in addition to boxing to support his family.
Record: 10-2 (6KO's)
Lonnie Love is a super featherweight with the speed of a flyweight and the power of a middleweight! Ask him and he will tell you why boxing saved his life. Love goes by the moniker of "El Negro Mexicano Lightning" because of his fast paced, in your face style!
Record: 20-0 (17 KOs)
Daniel Jacobs is the current NABO and NABF supermiddleweight champion. Jacobs is challenging for the WBO Supermiddleweight championship. Monikered as the "Golden Child," Jacobs exploded on the scene on the under card of Mayweather-Hatton. If you didn't get to see him, he stopped Jesus Hurtado in less than 30 seconds. Jacobs is truly an offensively gifted fighter.
The title of the slide show was five fighters to follow on Twitter. There are two guys who couldn't make this list for obvious reasons, but still keep an eye out for these guys. This is for entertainment purposes after all.
Record: 10-0 (????)
Mike Marshall is an amateur fighter who camps with Daniel Jacobs. This guy is athletic and fast. He played football in high school and discovered boxing later. He just won the Empire State games in new York and will be competing in another tournament soon. He is on the list because he trains with Daniel Jacobs and he's entertaining on twitter.
Record: Come on man.
No, our community leader isn't a fighter, but why not add him? He has a twitter account and is such a huge celebrity that I couldn't resist!
