John Salmons To D.C a Possibility?

brandon LamCorrespondent IJuly 1, 2010

With the start of one of the biggest free agent classes in NBA history to begin Thursday, the Washington Wizards will not be active in pursuing any of the big name free agents. Some of those names include: Lebron james, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire. However, Washington will be active when the big names are gone, and players such as John Salmons, David Lee, Al Harrington, Travis Outlaw are still available.

Salmons would be the best player to acquire, because he can play both shooting guard and small forward positions and would be a terrific fit with rookie point guard John Wall and Gilbert Arenas.Salmons recently opted out of the final year of his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, and will become a free agent on Thursday. Salmons averaged 19.9 points a game with the Bucks after he was acquired in February.

Washington who drafted Wall with the first pick in the 2010 NBA draft, has had an exciting off-season so far. They acquired the 17 pick, which turned out to be Kevin Seraphin and Kirk hinrich from the Chicago Bulls. They also recently traded for New Jersey Nets forward Yi Jianlian, in exchange Washington traded Quinton ross.

Washington has about $6 million left to spend on free agents, and they still have multiple positions where they need to address including small forward and center. With Washington in rebuilding mode, if they acquire Salmons that would be a great start already with Wall,Arenas,Salmons being the key pieces.
