Andy Martino for The Daily News reports that Oliver Perez will begin his minor rehab assignment in Single-A today. He is expected to throw about 90 pitches today, according to Omar Minaya.

After Perez starts his rehab assignment the Mets have 30 days to activate him and bring him up to the majors. They could ask him to accept an assignment to the minors, or just release him.

"This is going to be a first step, because he's under the lights, under competition," Minaya said. He also says that the Mets need to send Perez on a rehab assignment and they will make a decision on what to do with him when the assignment is over.

Does anyone else not care? Good, I thought it was just me.

I would love for Ollie to be good, I really would. I'm not rooting against the guy. It's just I'm lost all faith and hope in him. I wish he could step up and be the number three guy in the rotation, but I'm not that crazy.

Hopefully the Mets can eat most of his salary and trade him to some team for a relief pitcher. I think that would be the best thing Ollie could do for this team at this point.
