So this relative unknown from Plovdiv in Bulgaria, a nation that has not a single grass court, beats the mighty Venus Williams?
Very impressive you say, but just who is Tsvetana Pironkova?
Well, I can tell you that 2009 certainly wasn't her year. Pironkova lost in the first round in nine consecutive tournaments, so her 2010 is already much better, and the year is only half over.
Yet despite her struggles, she never lost the faith. And speaking of "faith", here is what she had to say following her upset of Williams:
"Wimbledon has always been, you know, like a religion to me."
