After being bounced around like a piñata by Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr. promised swift retaliation. Here is a post-race quote from Sonoma:

“I know he's going to say, 'Well, Juan (Pablo Montoya) was trying to pass me and I was trying to block him.'" Truex said. "I don't care. Just because he's trying to pass you, it's all right for you to spin me out? No. Let him pass you, then."

No. 56 promised to pay back Gordon and Montoya for wrecking him at Infineon, but he appeared to soften his tone next day with this quote:

“The nice guy seems to always get pushed around and I’m tired of being the nice guy,” said Truex, who plunged from 16th to 19th in points with his 42nd-place finish at Infineon. “I’m tired of getting pushed around. I’m not going to stand here and say that I’m going to go out and wreck Jeff because that’s not me and that’s not how I do things. But some things are going to change.”

With only ten races left before the chase, I have to believe most teams who have a reasonable chance to get into the top twelve are talking about getting a good finish and not about wrecking somebody.

We can all agree on that.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to let that “macho posturing” be until next year or at least until you're out of the chase.

If you're wrecking somebody, you're running the risk of damaging your car or even worse, wrecking yourself right out of the chase.

DNF’s are not what you're looking for if you want to make the championship round.

We can only guess what state of mind No. 56 will have Sunday, but if I was Gordon or Montoya I stay the heck away from him.

Hopefully Martin Truex Jr. is smarter than the average bear and lets this go for now. It helps no one to retaliate now. You may just collect a good friend or spoil the chase for someone who has no dog in this fight.

Enough said.
