The Los Angeles Lakers certainly didn't have a lot of time to celebrate their new championship before turmoil broke out from within the team.
No, I'm not talking about Phil's decision to stay or leave, players demanding more money, or Ron Artest doing, well, anything. I'm talking about the apparent rift that has come to light between Kobe's wife, Vanessa Bryant, and Lamar Odom's wife, Khloe Kardashian.
So what's the beef between the reality show queen and she of the billion dollar diamond ring? Click ahead to find out.
Apparently, Vanessa Bryant hates Khloe because she's a "fake wife."
There have been rumors of the Odom-Kardashian marriage to be a bit of a sham for publicity purposes, but calling somebody a fake wife seems a little harsh. Especially if you know her.
Sources say that Vanessa has taken it upon herself to freeze out Khloe from the tight-knit group of wives and girlfriends (WAGs) already established on the Lakers.
However, word is they might be open to accepting whoever Chris Bosh is dating into their circle in the future.
One of the reasons people don't really take Khloe's marriage with Odom seriously is the speed which which it occurred. Hardly was there time to report that they were dating before they were engaged and getting married.
I knew Lamar had a sweet tooth, but I thought he might be a little less impulsive than this.
Kobe and Vanessa got married fairly early in Kobe's career, considering he came in out of high school. Phil Jackson said Kobe was just more mature than most players.
I think Kobe just has good eyesight and knew he had to lock Vanessa and the twins down early, or not at all.
You're looking at part of the newest good luck charm in sports. The Saints won a Super Bowl with Kim Kardashian dating Reggie Bush, then the Lakers won a title with Khloe onboard.
It's no wonder that Ty Lawson wanted to get up with Kim for a good 17 minutes for a little luck.
I'm not sure 17 minutes would quite do it there, Ty.
You want a good luck charm? Try Vanessa Bryant. Kobe has won five championships with her and none without her.
No wonder he gave her that giant ring after that mess in Colorado. You can't let something like that get away.
Just in case this whole supposed Khloe-Vanessa rivalry wasn't crazy enough, Ron Artest felt the need to step in and contribute. Surprisingly, he actually adds a voice of reason it seems like:
"No, they're cool ... We're all family. The wives, the girlfriends and the boys—we're all family, straight family. Vanessa's great, a lovely lady, and Khloe's great. Khloe's family, you know? Lamar—that's my boy, so I love them both."
Is it possible that Vanessa's dislike of Khloe stems from Khloe taking some of the spotlight off Vanessa?
She has stayed behind the scenes for most of Kobe's career, but lately she's been up in the front, standing on the podium during the Lakers' trophy presentation, on the float at the victory parade, and just generally seems to be wanting more and more attention.
Maybe something that will help calm down this news is the fact that Khloe and Lamar will finally be taking their honeymoon that they have delayed up until now.
They'll be heading to Cabo San Lucas for a while, but no reports yet on if either of them will be bringing the people they're currently sleeping with.
No reports about Vanessa Bryant have suggested that she is particularly warm and cuddly. Just look at her here, she's got a "don't you even be looking at my man" look going.
Is it any surprise that she doesn't make new friends easily? Neither does Kobe.
If her marriage to Odom doesn't last, Khloe could make a nice career of renting out a relationship to a famous athlete who wants to win a championship. Hell, Kim seems to be ready to give the Cowboys their long awaited Super Bowl by dating Miles Austin.
Maybe LeBron should make a run at Khloe.
Kardashian may be someone who's not famous for much else than being on a reality TV show, but Vanessa seems to only identify with being a basketball wife, even rocking this Kobe jersey-dress at NBA All-Star weekend.
Why should we really even care about either of them?
You always hear about players coming into the NBA having an "NBA-ready body." Well, Khloe may not be the most attractive Kardashian, but with her height, she's definitely the most qualified to date a guy over 6'6.
So is this feud between the two Lakers wives the real deal or something cooked up by the media
Despite what Ron Artest says, I buy this. And you know what? I blame Vanessa. I doubt there was anything there other than some other wife taking away her spotlight and this cold-fish didn't like it.
I've got nothing to back it up, but that's what my gut tells me.
