It is the most ridiculous thing in sports to have the fans vote for the MLB All-Star Game. Fans vote for their favorite players even if they have horrible numbers.

This year has been a prime example thus far of the stupidity of fans.

Big-name players that have been hitting very poorly, with three or four guys way more deserving of an appearance, are not only in first or second for their position, but are miles ahead of everyone else.

Adrian Beltre

I am going to start with my hometown team to get it out of the way. Beltre's numbers are as follows.

AVG .342
HR 11
RBI 51
OBP .382
SLG .545
OPS .927

He currently leads all other third basemen in most every hitting category there is, ahead of Evan Longoria and Alex Rodriguez.

Longoria and A-Rod currently sit first and second in All-Star voting, and I don't have a problem with that, except A-Rod has numbers drastically lower then Beltre, Longoria, and Michael Young (who I have not even mentioned yet).

Longoria, Young, and Beltre should all be jockeying for position right now with A-Rod a very distant forth based on the numbers thus far. Young and Beltre should be two and three at the minimum, and that's not how it is.

Wake up, people, and realize that A-Rod is batting 24 points lower than the other three with worse power numbers than any of them. Come on America!

Paul Konerko

This man is third in the AL in home runs, third in RBI, fifth in slugging percentage, and he is not even in the top five in first baseman voting. That is insane.

Here is his stat line.

AVG .302
HR 18
RBI 54
OBP .397
SLG .579
OPS .976

Those numbers are very All-Star-worthy, but somehow he has managed to go completely unnoticed. Meanwhile, Mark Teixeira has managed to be second sporting a .229 AVG. His numbers are some of the worst in the AL, yet he is even ahead of Miguel Cabrera and Kevin Youkilis.

Sure, I am Yankee-hating here as a Red Sox fan, but Konerko has better numbers in EVERY category, and so does Cabrera. I challenge angry Yankee fans reading this to go find me an argument that pulls for A-Rod or Teixeira.

John Buck

Now his numbers will not jump at you as crazy good or anything, but they are compared to the other catchers in the AL.

AVG .268
HR 12
RBI 38
OBP .305
SLG .521
OPS .825

He leads all catchers in HR, RBI, and slugging, and he currently sits outside the top five for catchers.

Again, a Yankee gets all of the votes, but he is so undeserving. I am done talking about New York, though. The fans there just vote and vote for their own players, even though the only deserving Yankees are Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano.

My point for this one is just that Buck leads important categories and is not even considered in voting.

Juan Uribe

I am not sure if he is deserving of being there, but he should be much higher up on the list of shortstops in the NL than some of the people. He is not in the top five, but he leads all at his position in HR and RBI.

AVG .270
HR 11
RBI 44
OBP .342
SLG. 469
OPS .811

Those are not mind-blowing numbers, but he should be in the discussion at the very least. He is a solid player with great numbers compared to others at his position.

At the very least he should be ahead of Orlando Cabrera, who is not having a good year at all but manages to be fifth in voting.

Corey Hart

Now perhaps I am a little confused about this voting, because this guy has some of the best numbers in baseball, and he is not in the top 15 for NL outfielders.

AVG .272
HR 18
RBI 55
OBP .342
SLG .583
OPS .925

Those are more than good enough numbers to get him in the All-Star Game. So where is he in voting? I am completely confused as to why he is not leading all outfielders.

He is having an outstanding year, and no one is seeing him I guess. I am just baffled at the fans this year.
