It is looking more and more likely that LeBron James will not sign with the New Jersey Nets. It seems as though Chicago has an early lead, and according to some, Miami has an edge over even the Cavs and the Knicks. Of course, this is all chit-chat and there is still a chance King James could land with the Nets. But the Nets are smart (hopefully), and therefore aren't putting all of their eggs in one basket. Here are 10 of the Nets other options if they can't sign LeBron James.
If the Nets don't get LeBron, then they're probably not getting Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, or Dirk Nowitzki either. Still, any of these guys would be a great option if the Nets could grab them.
What do Joe Johnson, Yao Ming, and Ray Allen have in common? Well, all have been All-Stars, but all have major flaws. For Johnson, it's his inability to perform well in the playoffs. For Yao, it's his injuries, and for Allen, it's his age. But would do they all also have? Talent. Especially Johnson, who I would ate above Yao and Allen.
If the Nets don't take a big man with the number three pick and don't get LeBron, then they will look to add size. And that is where Boozer and Stoudemire come in. Both have had their ups and downs in the league, but both are still great players in their prime who can make an immediate impact.
This plan would only happen if the Nets failed to win big in free agency. Not that David Lee and Rudy Gay aren't great, but they're no LeBron and D-Wade.
With the Nets' new owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, the Nets are definitely going to make some noise in free agency. But the draft is still crucial. The Nets need to win big on Thursday, and if they can nab Evan Turner, that would be a great start. He would hopefully provide immediate talent. It would also help land big-name free agents (even if their name is not LeBron James).
But the bottom line is—we want LeBron.
