Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano Targeted by FC Barcelona
Just because the World Cup is going on, it doesn't mean club soccer has taken a break.
On the contrary, this World Cup pause allows for lots of speculation regarding the upcoming post-World Cup transfer window in August.
Barcelona have decided they, too, want to bring in a huge number of amazing players to match up what Real Madrid did last year with Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. The Catalan side is in negotiations with Manchester City to sell off midfielder Yaya Toure for a value of €30 million, which they hope to use in signing his replacement.
Barca is planning to offer Liverpool a total of about €75-80 million for two of its biggest stars, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano. With the signing of David Villa a done deal for Barca, they are looking to bring in Torres to be the second striker up front, since Zlatan Ibrahimovic is likely saying goodbye to La Liga.
The Daily Mail in England reported the offer for Torres is at €46 million, but the Catalans are also in deep competition for the services of El Nino with Chelsea, who seem to have an endless supply of cash at the ready. As a Spanish paper reported, there is the option of sending Toure to Man City and bringing Mascherano in as his replacement with the value at €30 million or so.
So I guess La Liga just wants to hog all the stars in the world....
