Danica Patrick’s return to the Nationwide Series has sparked a run on ticket sales for the Saturday race at Loudon.

Reportedly it has been about a 30 percent increase.

Now that’s Danica power. That’s what she can do, she can sell the show.

This brings one question to mind, why is there so many empty seats at the Cup level?

Many blame the economy, but yet one driver (Danica) can spark a run on tickets, not five percent or ten percent but a huge 30 percent increase.

That’s significant!

So what’s going on here?

Does it tell us there is a lack of self promotion by the top drivers in NASCAR’s primo series?

I understand Tony Stewart won’t look good in a bikini, but fans like myself hardly hear from Tony anymore, who by the way, at one time, was one of the most entertaining drivers in cup.

Are the top drivers in NASCAR taking the time necessary to promote the sport, are they making themselves available to the media 24/7?

As a fan, I can only look at NASCAR as an entertainment venue, is a show, no different than any other sport.

Can we agree on that?

So what’s the problem with ticket sales?

Maybe, just maybe, there is too many boring personalities in NASCAR, and please understand, I’m just a fan with an opinion, not a sports marketing expert.

A fans point of view may just have the answer.

Is there enough personalities in the cup to attract the marginal fan, you know like the ones Danica Patrick is bringing to the Nationwide Series.

Lets be honest folks, some cup drivers are boring, they look to have scripted answers.

You know if they ask A you answer B, oh and make sure you tip your drink so the camera can see it!

Sometimes I think the only reason they do the interview is to tip the drink and show the brand.

Am I wrong on this?

The hardcore fans will always fill half of the seats, the other half will be filled by folks looking for a few hours of entertainment and looking for more bang for their buck.

That’s what Danica Patrick provides to fans, lots of bang for their buck.

She is the queen of self promotion. Guess what? It works!

Some cup drivers should take the hint.

As always, I’m just a fan with an opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I thank God for that.
