Well, Ryan Dinwiddie made his coach look like a genius—again. On Thursday night in Winnipeg, RD gave a positively Dinwiddie-like performance—and Boise State fans who have longed to see Ryan light up defenses one more time had their chance (if they get channel 39 on their antenna).
Dinwiddie, as I blogged earlier this week, was given the reigns of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after their incumbent got them off to an 0-4 start. Dinwiddie not only tossed for 450 yards and a score, he tossed the game winning touchdown with only seconds left on the clock.
I gotta tell ya, to see Dinwiddie's pure elation after he tossed that game clincher almost brought a tear to my eye. The guy's been through a lot and it's about time he was given the opportunity to shine once again.
Boise State, by the way, got a lot of free pub during the game as Dinwiddie's college roots were mentioned time and again, as well as his teammate's, Cam Hall.
Dinwiddie looked so poised, confident, and accurate, I could've sworn I'd stepped back into the year 2003. Now, if I could just figure out why they only got three downs (or "doons" as the announcer kept referring to them), why the teams got a point for missing a field goal and why the uprights were at the very front of a 20-yards-deep endzone all would be right with the world.
Atta boy, RD! We haven't forgotten about you.

Well let me tell ya!
Canada (where American football was invented) plays the game slightly differently then you do south of the border.
1. The field is longer and wider
2. Yep, we only get three downs to move the ball 10 yards
3. Defenders have to line up one yard off the line of scrimmage
4. Everyone in the backfield can be in motion before the snap
5. 12 man per side instead of 11
All of the above create a game where passing plays a bigger role than running. It is much easier to get a single yard when that is all you need and it also creates a game where a breakout and huge gain is more likely. As a result CFL games tend to have bigger or more dramatic comebacks than NFL or NCAA games. It does not make it a better game just one that while using the same skill set for players must be coached differently, has different strategies and takes some getting used too.
I grew up with it and it took me a while to figure out why the heck you guys (NFL) ran as much as you did and punted so much less and why your stupid refs could not count downs and kept letting the teams get away with an extra one when clearly you had already used up all three of your downs :)
Glad you are a fan of Ryan, I trust you watched him in the Gray Cup (CFL Superbowl)? That was his first start in the CFL. Imagine throwing some poor unfortunate rookie quarterback into the Superbowl with absolutley zero game time in the regular season. That's what we did to RD last year. Unfortunately he did not win that one but he did not embarrass us either. He kept it tight and the Blue Bombers in the game until the last minute of play. That is also why the Bomber fans cheer him so loudly whenever he steps on the field. We placed the weight of the world on his shoulders and he took it.

Course I'm a fan of Dinwiddie. He was the single greatest quarterback that has ever graced Boise State's blue turf in my opinion.

Not JZ? I'll agree actually.

Zabransky may have won a lot of games and was maybe a better all around athlete than RD...but I think a lot of Bronco fans cringed every time he dropped back to pass. His senior year was solid and his sophomore season was nice...but his junior year was not pretty.
RD was a stud at BSU from day one.

So true. I will always give it up to JZ for his role in the best BSU (and maybe NCAA Div. 1 football) game of all time, the 07' Fiesta Bowl.
