As the years go by, the NFL caters more to the entertainment side of television than to the actual sporting side.
When television was invented, it was primarily used as means for advertising. In 2010, nothing has changed, and the advertisements just continue to get more clever and entertaining.
With just a bit of browsing, a list of the top 10 has quickly grown. Feel free to share your favorites, or simply flip through the list.
Nike has been tied to every sport in every country forever, in this one Troy Polamalu and Ladainian Tomlinson are shown fufilling their inevitable destiny from youth to NFL. The ending of just goes to show that hard work always pays off and to "Leave Nothing" on the field.
A rather comical ad by Pepsi Lemon featuring a gigantic Tony Romo playing in the NFL against regular size players. I don't remember ever seeing this one on television, I imagine it was strictly a Texas area advertisement. The ending also features a gigantic Brian Dawkins when he still played for the Philadelphia Eagles.
I can't say that I don't like Jerry Jones a little more after watching this one. Papa John's gets Jerry Jones to "cut loose" in this one after initially telling players they are done with touchdown dances.
Visa put out a classic ad celebrating the intense love of the NFL by it's fans. Shot presumably in the Boston area, this ad features a parade for the New England Patriots set to a tune by the Dropkick Murphys called "Shipping Up To Boston".
The infamous Peyton Manning series from Mastercard. This showcases a great sense of humor from the often uptight quarterback as he visits rival city hotels after the games. Makes you wonder if fans are just starstruck when they see him or if he actually receives comments like this.
A classic ad from Diet Pepsi at the peak of Reggie Bush's popularity. Just having come out of college himself, a new rookie is added to Reggie's team named "Machine". While Machine can't do situps, the fact that it drops passes less frequently than the Jets' Braylon Edwards should be noted.
Another ad featuring the Manning brothers, this time by Oreo. The Mannings decide to leave the NFL for the Double Stuff Racing League and square off in an empty stadium, questioning if they've made the right decision.
There has to be a joke in here somewhere, but for the life of me I just can't think of one. ESPN ad's are instant classics and constant water cooler conversation, this one features Ben Roethlisberger "saving" employees during a fire drill.
This ad from the Peyton Mastercard series shows Peyton Manning in a reverse situation, poking fun at the reactions of fans around athletes.
If you didn't think the Jim Mora Coors ad would be No. 1, then you really have never spoken to an NFL fan. The phrase "Playoffs?! Playoffs?!" is thought of any time the word is said in certain circles among fans. The creative video editing of press conferences by Coors is an all-time favorite, you could argue the Mike Ditka ad's should also be on here.
When the NFL pays for ad time to thank their fans, you have to love it. The NFL is full of the most passionate fans in the world, and this video showcases that. Well done NFL.
