Jerod Mayo has been the Patriots leading tackler in both of his first two seasons in the NFL. Hopefully, his stats will be more of the same. The only thing we can ask of him is to become the heart and soul of the defence and run it from the center after so many veterans have left the roster.
The man who I believe will be playing next to Mayo for most of the snaps this season will also help with the leadership issues as he was the leader of a great Florida defence last year.
That man, of course, is Brandon Spikes. Spikes will come in and be a force against the run straight away, and I believe he could be a steal after only being a late second rounder. The Patriots have already being teaching him how to run the defence from on the field during a game, so they have already shown great faith in him, which is a great sign.
Two other players I see making the roster and playing behind Mayo and Spikes are last year's starter, Gary Guyton, and Tyrone McKenzie, a man who missed his rookie season last year after spending it on the IR.
I like Guyton as a player and believe he will continue to be a solid player this season. McKenzie is an interesting player, and I am looking forward to see how he rebounds from his injury and how much playing time he actually receives.
Projected Depth Chart:
1. Jerod Mayo
2. Brandon Spikes
3. Gary Guyton
4. Tyrone McKenzie
