Darren McFadden: To be or Not to be?
In an interview that took place on May 10th, McFadden told the press that he has "An edge on any running back". Does the Raiders Rookie have any right to say that?
Compared to NFL Runningbacks such as Marshawn Lynch and Adrian Peterson, the answer is YES, he does.
Looking at Darren McFadden's last collegiate year as a running back, he put up quite impressive numbers competing in a tough SEC division with 325 attempts, 1,830 yards, an average of 5.6 yards per carry and 16 touchdowns.
Adrian Peterson's stats in his rookie NFL season were 238 attempts, 1,341 yards, an average of 5.6 yards per carry and 12 touchdowns. Lynch's rookie numbers were a little lower, with 280 attempts, 1,115 yards, an average of four yards per carry and seven touchdowns.
While McFadden's average per carry statistic is the same as Peterson's, McFadden doubles Lynch's touchdowns and has more rushing yards than Peterson and Lynch. This kid is no joke.
With Oakland's offensive line, McFadden should be able to find some holes and burst through for some good gains. Oakland's offensive line opened up enough defensive lines, enabling the running game to chalk up 130.4 yards per game last season and showed a 31-sack improvement from previous seasons.
My predictions for McFadden's rookie season are: 260 attemps, 1,400 yards, 5.3 yards average per carry and 13 touchdowns.
He may very well be the next rookie of the year in NFL football.
