UFC shows never seem to live up to their hype anymore. UFC Fight Night 14 was just another example of a terrible show with too many mismatches and lethargic performances.
It was a good thing that I had the Affliction show on at the same time so I would not fall asleep. There were a lot of exciting matches on the Affliction show, and I was watching that show more than I was watching the UFC broadcast.
CB Dolloway had a nice submission win over Jesse Taylor to start the UFC broadcast on Spike TV, but the Kevin Burns fight against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson made fans very angry.
Burns established himself as one of the most feared and dangerous fighters on the planet, and I don't think many fighters will want to sign to fight him in the very near future. He might be more dangerous than fighters like Fedor or Anderson Silva right now. Sure, you might get knocked out by those two fighters but you could lose your eyesight fighting Burns.
Burns' fingers poked and scratched Johnson's eye about four or five times in the match. Burns showed no class and sportsmanship when he tried to go for the kill and attack a fallen Johnson after another eye poke in the final round. Burns pretended he didn't know what had just happened and even deceived the referee who stopped the fight and awarded the TKO victory to Burns.
Frankie Edgar and Hermes Franca had an uninspiring three-round fight which ended in a decision. The other three matches on the main card were all mismatches or lethargic.
Brandon Vera was supposed to defeat Reese Andy, and he did, but it was one of the worst fights of the night. Andy reminds me of former UFC fighter Sean Salmon for some reason. I guess it is because they are both wrestlers and short.
Heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez easily defeated UFC veteran Jake O' Brien in the first round, and Silva quickly dismantled the overmatched James "The Sandman" Irvin.
I was really glad the Affliction show was on because that show was way more exciting than the UFC's show.
Vitor Belfort, Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett, and Fedor Emelianenko all had great fights that got fans really excited on Saturday night. Affliction's show had way more action than any of the UFC shows in the past few months.
There is more MMA action this weekend as EliteXC has their second big show on CBS and Showtime on Saturday night. This show should be very exciting and the fights should be way more competitive and intriguing than the fights on UFC Fight Night 14.
There will be three title fights and also a women's match as well.
If the UFC continues to have bad shows with boring fights and questionable judging and officiating, MMA fans will tune in instead to shows by their competitors, such as Affliction and EliteXC, if they haven't already.
You can count me as one of those fans.

though I do agree with you on a few things, I dont think affliction should have been a PPV card. I find it interesting how you talk down on the UFC fights and glorify the Afflictions fights saying Irvin was overmatched while praising the hillarious 36 sec victory over the biggest phony in MMA history in Tim Sylvia. The Vera fight was lame, Ill give you that. Valaquez is a good fighter and he had a great showing. Hermes Franca and Frankie Edgar was a battle and had some great moments in the 3rd. I hate CB Dollaway but I agree it was a nice submission.

I agree, this was one of the worse free shows I had to watch. I think every fight had something in that I was angry about, let's start with the obvious poke in the eye, and then a TKO, please, everyone knows we should have seen the ref (mazzagatti) turn his decision around and call it a DQ. The Brandon Vera fight, well, what fight should I say, they danced around and traded shots like it was patty cake time. And then the hyped up fight with A> Silva, can we find someone please to knock him back to the 185 lb. class, he's very talented, but could not stand with alot of the 205lb veterans, we will see I think he made his mark, especially on the eye of James Irvin

You have no idea what you're talking about. You sit there and trash the UFC, saying that the Affliction card was so much better, yet you fail to mention anything about those fights or why they were that much better. The Belfort fight was lame... Vitor ran from Martin the entire fight? How is that exciting? And the Fedor 36 second fight? You're gonna say that that was a great fight, but the Anderson Silva fight wasn't? If you're gonna call the Silva fight over matched, then you have to call the Fedor fight the same thing! And what exactly do you find so great about Elite XC? They have Kimbo Slice. He doesn't know anything about MMA! They purposely mismatch that guy up with opponents. Have him fight a well rounded guy and see what happens. It will be the same thing that happened to Brock Lesnar. Affliction and Elite XC will be gone before you know it.

I think Affliction and UFC had good fight nights. I agree with Casey on everything. I would also like to see the columnist step in the ring with a UFC fighter. He problably couldn't take a lick from a third grader.

Would have to disagree, first off as I said before affliction is wack a bunch of washed up ufc fighters, it was boring as hell and I am glad I watched it for free over a web feed and I feel sorry for anyone that paid for it, as for the Silva fight being a miss-match I think no matter who you put Silva against it will always be a miss match at least skill wise, the point was the Irvin was a test and he was a banger, as for it being boring that is how mma is sometime, do you find chess entertaining or full of excitement? No probably not, seems you need something a little simpler like checkers try watching boxing it maybe easier for you to follow. I don't mean to sound like I am insulting but when watching an mma bout if the matches are boring it is because the fighters are pretty equal in skill, so either you want a fast action miss match or a boring fight with two guys that have a lot of skill you cant have both so make up you mind.

Yeah boy! That Kevin Burns fight against Anthony "Rumble" Johnson had a terrible decision. Eye Gouging has been the ONLY rule that has been part of the UFC since its first event!! If Kevin's hand was broken or whatever, then he should not have been allowed to fight in the first place. Instead he was allowed to fight and endanger another fighter's CAREER!!
The only decision that would had made sense was a DQ!!

I always like to read DWizzles articles...just to see what kinda off-the-wall, crazy nonsense he's going to spout this time. As usual...he didn't disappoint.
You live in your own little world, bro....and it's a strange place.
