The History of the Number Four Pick

No team is happy to get the fourth overall pick. There is something that just sounds better about picking in the top three. If first is gold, second is silver, and third is bronze, then what the hell is fourth?

There certainly have been a good number of busts coming from the fourth spot: Marcus Fizer, Eddy Curry, and more.

In recent years, and really for the last five years, the number four pick has been able to make an impact. Chris Paul, Tyrus Thomas, Mike Conley, Jr., Russell Westbrook, and Tyreke Evans are those taken in the last five years. All are still in the league and contributing.

Maybe the Timberwolves were upset when they didn't win the John Wall sweepstakes, but if history repeats itself, Wes Johnson or DeMarcus Cousins may be a perfectly fine consolation prize.
