I have this tic that started today.
It happens every year about this time. It always coincides with the beginning of football season.
Yes, I know, its still July. But this is Texas. Football has five stages: Training Camp, Pre-season, Present-season, post-season, and, the longest period save for the Draft, off-season.
But the whole process begins again with Training Camp.
I tend to start psychologically drooling. I actually stay up to watch the late news for the reports from camp—which is Oxnard, California this year. The website is revamped and renewed. I get the tic.
The first pre-season game. No, its not meant to be taken seriously, but I love seeing the possibilities. The tic starts again.
In Tuscola, Texas (where Colt McCoy played in school), there is a tradition that the first varsity high school practice starts at 12 am on the first day the UIL will allow. There's that tic again.
Local news, newspapers, radio; everything has special editions of The Look Ahead—that tic is getting worse.
Finally, its the first day of The Season. The tic has degenerated into wanton craziness. Along with everyone else around me.
Its the excitement of fall...holidays, school, football, cooler weather, warmer food and feelings. Its delicious.
I look over at my $350.00 electric bill, summer is still here. My grass has a lack of green due to a lack of water—we're still in a drought, and the kids are going nuts because its too hot to play outside. Did you know that asphalt has a liquid state? The Rangers hare just barely hanging above .500 ball. Everyone is getting a little cranky because of the heat.
But Training Camp has started. The end is nigh. Greener pastures are on the horizon. Everyone gets excited.
There's that tic again.
