Fedor and Anderson Silva: How Do You Choose?

If I have to make a choice, give me the "goose whisperer." I love a man who loves animals! Dorothy Willis would take Fedor over Silva.

Ask me to choose between Georges St. Pierre and anyone and I will take GSP every time.

Ask me to choose between Fedor and Anderson Silva and I will take the "goose whisperer" (as seen in the picture with this article), a truly humble man.

Why?  Well before seeing his fight with Tim Sylvia, Fedor was just the name of a guy from Pride who a bunch of MMA fanatics (who were disenfranchised when Pride was appropriated by the UFC) decided that he was just a step below the Holy Trinity.  Fedor could do nothing but brag about his superiority to any other fighter—no exceptions.

Being completely obtuse on more than one occasion, I did not realize all the times I had seen him beating other fighters.  He is just so ordinary in his appearance that I did not know who he was.

Suddenly, when he came out to face Tim, I thought, "Oh my Lord, so that is the great Fedor!"

Seeing him rush into Tim's arms with a flurry of strikes I had expletives exploding in my head, "I have seen him before" and a lot of "damns" and "how could I be so stupid!" until I made myself sick.  I knew Fedor!

Having had Fedor at the very edges of my consciousness made me feel like such a ninny that I was forced to berate myself all night and into the next day.  It has been very hard for me to live with myself since then.

When looking back on his career and remembering seeing a fight stopped because he was standing and bleeding very quietly and in no apparent distress when the fight was called, I thought, "Wow, if they had let that fight go on and he had won, what an unbelievable record this one ordinary man would have had!"  Remarkable.  And not just the "cans" that Dana had inferred he fought.  I had been deceived by the UFC Svengali!  Curses!

So now, without a doubt in my mind, I know that if he were to fight Anderson, who I have seen put the heads of those he has vanquished in the octagon, will never add Fedor's head to his collection.

  1. Great article. I LOVE Fedor! He doesnt care about being the best or loudest. He is a really humble guy that just loves fighting. And that one loss he has, was an illegal elbow so it should have been a win for him but RINGS needed a winner to continue the tournament and since Fedor was bleeding and couldnt continue, they had to give him a loss. So the guy is undefeated.

I think eventually someone will beat him, but I think it will be just one of those lucky punches that anyone can get if the planets are all aligned. I have never seen a more complete fighter. He is the greatest fighter in the world in my view and I don't see anyone that could even challenge that.

    1. Just imagine what he will do if he continues to fight until he is Randy's age.

  2. Why exactly would you take GSP? Aren't you setting yourself up to be duped by the UFC Svengali again? St. Pierre has definitely got talent and is good on his feet or on the ground, but seriously lady, get a clue. GSP hasn't defended his UFC crown successfully yet, why exactly would you take him ahead of Anderson Silva? GSP is a head case; which is typical for an overrated french canadian. If he were to pick up weight (15 pounds) and challenge Anderson Silva, Anderson would destroy GSP...it would be laughable. But, the only thing that would be funnier would be to see Anderson Silva try to fight Fedor, as Fedor would demolish Silva. It's simple darwinism and Fedor is at the top of the food chain...he will never be beaten by the way.

    1. Hey Nesta, Have you read my Bio yet? Better read it cause that says it all. GSP is not just a French Canadian headcase, I have made him MY F/C headcase, so now I am specialising in him. And we are in total agreement about what would happen between Fedor and Anderson Silva--that is why I wrote this article. Entendiente?

  3. Dorothy, do youself a favor and watch all of his Pride fights between 2001-2005. Americans (being a xenophobic lot) are still not fully aware of how truly awesome this guy is.

And the reason a lot of the Pride guys haven't done so well in the UFC is because they're damaged from all those brutal Pride Tournaments (many of which were open weight). Watch and you'll be amazed .. all the greats are there - Fedor, Wanderlei, CroCop, Sakuraba, the Gracie's, Big Nog, Rua, Gomi, Henderson, Rampage etc.

  4. ... Arona and Barnett too.

    1. The Pride guys have done very well in the UFC actually. Silva, Jackson & Minotauro, all Pride fighters, walzed through the UFC competitors and promptly took the belts!

    2. I thought Cro Cop, who I adore, did not translate well when he transitioned to the cage of the UFC. I thought Forrest beat Minotauro, and Heath Herring has had ups and downs too. Four people beat Anderson Silva before he came to the cage. Being so old my memory is faulty, what am I missing?

  5. I mostly just watched when Frank Trigg was commenting.

  6. Great article I think, but where was the Argument for Anderson Silva? You left the co-headliner/ other pound for pound fighter in the world out.... Nonetheless, Fedor is my pick as well.

Anderson Silva will be better than Fedor if he gets his rematch with Okami and VANQUISHES him a la Fedor style AND Fedor does not look convincing in his next match vs Andrei Arvloski, whom he should have LESS trouble with than he did Tim Sylvia.

  7. Feank, You are right about me leaving something out. My point was entirely based on the fact that Anderson has been defeated four times in the past before coming to UFC and that Fedor had one loss due to a cut that, if it could have continued most likely would be in his win column too. In other words, four people have had Anderson's number in the past, but no one really has figured out how to figure out Fedor. I made a big boo boo, huh?
