Martin Kampmann Wants Welterweight Dan Hardy Next
Although he just posted a career-changing win over welterweight contender Paulo Thiago this weekend at UFC 115, Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann is already hunting for his next victim.
Unfortunately for the Xtreme Couture trained slugger, Jon Fitch, Thiago Alves, Josh Kosheck and champ Georges St-Pierre already have their dance cards full. However, there is a 170-pounder available that just got a taste of a title bout.
“I’d love to fight Dan Hardy,” the Dane told MMAJunkie Radio on Monday. “I think that would make a great fight. I heard he doesn’t have an opponent right now.”
Hardy dropped a lopsided unanimous decision to St-Pierre at UFC 111 this past March. While he never presented any resistance during their tussle, the Brit feels he learned many lessons from the loss.
Most felt Kampmann’s disappointing showing against Paul Daley at UFC 103 in September cost him any hopes of entering a championship fight. However, following his performance on Saturday night, that minor set-back may have been a blessing in disguise.
We saw a much more patient Kampmann at UFC 115. Instead of wildly throwing bombs, he wisely picked his shots en route to collecting the unanimous decision win.
Now, he’ll have to wait and see if the UFC grants him his wish.
