Instead, it was another statue of Jesus with his hands raised celebrating a cross of the goal line that was struck with an earth-shattering bolt of electricity.
Confusion aside, the Ohio landmark left a church without its iconic statue in a precarious situation.
What Happened?
The statue, named the "King of Kings" statue, was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm last night around 11:15 p.m according to news reports.
The six-story statue, in the town of Monroe, Ohio just north of Cincinnati, succumbed to the lightning strike and burned down.

The statue sat in front of the Solid Rock Church along I-75 in southwest Ohio.
Made of plastic form and fiberglass on a steel frame, the statue received thousands of visitors every year.
The luminous statue cost roughly $250,000 and was completed in 2004.
